Hello hello and welcome to my thread! Grab a cup of tea and take a seat :smile:

Often when I endtroduce BoC to others, I'll flip on their more commonly known "masterpieces" e.g. SAI, Sunshine Recorder, Chromakey, Roygbiv, Dayvan cowboy(though reluctantly), Kid For Today, Happy Cycling, Left Side Drive and explain to them/he/she the principle elements used, the subtle intricacies that abound, the variability of patterns and so on and so forth. Then I'll get feedback from them asking them how they felt, what it sounded like to them, and especially what it reminded them of if anything at all. The typical answers I get tend to be "enjoyed but not impressed" type responses. Overall, it's "weird" for most people.

I find that most people don't fully recognize the brilliance and perfection that the Sandisons elegantly produce in their music because it is almost near impossible to "get boc" in one sitting. It's like looking under the hood of a car and wondering why the hell people obsess over this stuff.

The answer is quite simply, complexity.

BoC has carved a melancholic niche of rustic childhood memories that perpetuates infinitesimally. BoC is a constant reminder of our innocence and corruption and its symbiosis.

It's the vast spectrum of layers and warped sounds that initially draws people into their music. Then it becomes more significant as one continues to listen to the music more and more.

The point is, is that the music essentially grows on you. There is so much going on that one cannot simply sit down and pay attention to every little detail that is put in.

And it's not just the vast spectrum of layers that one has to pay attention to.

It's also the origins of their soundbytes;

The quality of the sounds used;

The progressions of the melody and synths;

The variety of beat patterns;

The median used to produce the sound;

The relevance to the album;

And literally the list goes on...

When I first started listening to BoC around 6 years ago, I regarded it as background music and had it on when surfing the net. But in the back of my mind, I thought "there is something special here, but not sure really what" and so I kept listening to it as I found out more and more about each song.

I sort of went through phases where I would listen to songs I liked then stopped listening all together then got back into rotation again. After awhile I used it as an environment enhancer/mood enhancer when I felt it was necessary and for this reason BoC has become a special part of my musical taste.

And trying to explain this feeling and likeness for a band is about as absurd as explaining to someone the awesomeness of pigeons.

Describing to someone what BoC does is impossible for me.

I can tell them the basics elements and cool infos about the songs, but this is not what makes BoC so pinnacle in today's music.

So watmm I come to you with a simple question.

How do you introduce BoC to others so that they can appreciate it the way that you do when listening to it?
