Software: Convince me

Recommended Posts

I have always been a fan of hardware , not only i perform better using hardware but i like the overall sound and feel.

But unfortunately hardware is expensive as shit , so maybe i should start using software. I have tried software a few times , but i just hated the experience/final product (but that was years ago).

So what i want all the softwareheads to do is pretty much convince me , tell me how good software is , the pros ,etc..

Also recommend me software that is worth using.

Software doesn't wear out

Lots of software is free/easily available

If you learn a programming language you can write your own software for free

Assuming you have a laptop/good headphones you can make music anywhere using software

You can control software with a cheap midi keyboard/knob box

Most people can't tell the difference between software & hardware sounds

Hardware/software / Digital/analog combo FTW. Why go completely one direction or the other?

GHOST: have you killed Claudius yet
HAMLET: no
GHOST: why
HAMLET: fuck you is why
im going to the cemetery to touch skulls

You want to make music? Then get software!

You want to whine and be a lazy ass. Then don't make music or make money buy your hardware and make your music...

Jeez that was harsh.

I'm not whining or anything , just asking a simple question.

I know most of you ask software , that's why i asked , you ARE THE SOFTWARE EXPERTS.

Sorry bro. It just seems like you want us to convince you to make music? Anyone who can't afford hardware but wants to make music will no doubt use software, I'm not aware of any other means of making electronic music.

So there is no convincing needed.

Its either you want to make music or you don't.

Personally FL and Renoise are my two favs.

Just look at Wisp to see the awesome power of FL or Venetian Snares to see the awesome power of Renoise.

Fair enough.

I mean i tried software ages ago (5 years ago) and it was a shit experience , i have been pretty much living in a hole (software-wise) since then. I don't want my past experiences to get in the way of me making music , I'm traumatized , i need therapy (so yeah you are half right , i need you guys to convince me) , treat me like a rape victim who doesn't want to have sex/date ever again (because of the rape)

Software has changed a lot (hopefully) , i want tips , software names , etc.

Most software if not all will have support for Midi.

Mu ziq did some of his stuff with Reason I think you could try that and use it in conjunction with your Midi's

Personally every experience I've had with software has been a shit experience and I've always wanted hardware but can't afford it. However, its not the softwares fault, its mine (I suck). I started out with FL but my friend forced me to move to Renoise, I hated it at first then got used to but I still make shitty music.

You can check out what I've done with Renoise on my soundcloud.

therefore we will never hear it because criticism is essential to improving your music.

unless you're getting criticism from extra-watmm sources, or it's completely amazing.

cool, well if you're used to working with Roland step sequencers you can get all that functionality and more from either FL Studio or Five12 Numerology (mac only). In this way you will be able to combine powerful, but quick and easy pattern sequencing and hardware sound sources for a fraction of the cost of a standalone hardware sequencer. You can mix your hardware sound sources with VST instruments to give you a broader sound palette for next to nothing, plus have the advantage of recording into a multitrack DAW and all the easy post recording editing features that gives you. For me, it's not as polarised as hardware or software - I often use both together.
