there are most certainly stacks of videos on youtube that could help you. Give 'reason for beginners' or 'how to make tracks in reason' or something like that a search. I would suspect they are mostly rubbish for someone with some knowledge but could really help with someone who doesn't have a clue. I've always found youtube useful for similar things such as using photoshop or after effects, stuff like that.

Find out what programs your friends use, buy that program, and ask them questions instead of us :trashbear:

Sorry Segal, pick something popular and you will no doubt find tons of tutorials. Most ppl around here either uses Reason, FL Studio, or Ableton. Take your pick they are all about the same from a beginners perspective. If you want longevity, only use csound.

Or Renoooiiiise. It's got a learning curve to it though, so it maybe ought not to be your first stop.

I just YouTube everything I want to know. There's usually something. Google otherwise.

Once you've got a bit under your belt fidgeting-/tutorial-wise, I'd pull up the manual of whatever software you're using and just read it cover to cover over a period of time. I do this periodically with a few apps and pieces of gear as it brings your attention to things you hadn't thought about.

you'll learn the most from playing around and trying to get what you want! aka banging your head against a wall! then one day you'll make something you like and drench your garments sticky tears.

FL Studio is for more of the beginners at producing. Cubase 5 and Logic Pro is for proffesionals.

So i'd suggest downloading the FL Studio 9 DEMO, then when you get an idea of what style of music you want to produce, then you should buy FL Studio or get the torrent

Thats a bit of a generalisation. An awful one at that.

Thats like saying acoustic guitar is for beginners and electric is for professionals. Theyre both instruments (sort of), its just a matter of how you use them

try lots of things and see what you like. i've only ever used gajits breakthru on the st, and audiomulch and cooledit on the pc. never needed anything else (except for a few vst plugins). that meets all my recording and arrangement needs. i have a lot of outboard gear too, but you don't need any of that to start with.
