All Christmas Music is ambient music

arguing this because somehow it all creates a Christmas-y atmosphere. Even the ones I hate somehow it reminds me of the holidays. I guess you could argue like church music sounds HOLY but some I don't really think sounds holy just like warm milk and cookies feeling I dunno. How does one even do this with certain sequences of notes (might be a loaded question like by the same token how does some music sound holy/patriotic [except I don't feel this I just sort of agree with it but Christmas music it's fucking subconscious]) also someone experiment by exposing some Christmas-obsessed freaky person to Eno/musician of your choice

also sort of merging two threads together because I think the synths in this are pretty idm

I've been working on a Christmas ambient album for what seems like forever now. I want to include droney interpretations of a couple of carols, lots of sleigh bells and other stuff into this dreamy but slightly spooky atmosphere. It's not going very well though.

I'm not sure if "creates atmosphere" should be the only criteria for something being ambient music. All sorts of music creates atmosphere for me, including stuff with really fast non-repetitive beats that sounds decidedly un-ambient.

I'm sure we had a thread like this last year at christmas cause I remember the McCartney video being linked then too...

백호야~~~항상에 사랑할거예요.나의 아들.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

GHOST: have you killed Claudius yet
HAMLET: no
GHOST: why
HAMLET: fuck you is why
im going to the cemetery to touch skulls

I posted this in the john lennon thread. I think it single-handedly vindicates paul mccartney. it's just so wild and slightly threatening - my favourite xmas song.

the only other thing that comes close is this:

this one is just so bizarre. look at the way chris rea is comped into the video. also, notice how he seems woozy and slightly drunk. drunk driving home for christmas. notice his strange obsession with the other driver - "he's just like me". far be it from me to read too much into an innocent christmas song, but i don't think chris rea even HAS a family. the loneliness of the xmas period has simply driven him to madness and drink. he's stalking this other driver, following HIM home for xmas, ready to lurk wanking in the bushes as he slowly freezes to death, peering through the curtains and imagining himself a part of their idyllic festive tableaux.

Well according to the liner notes of Music for Airports, "ambient music must be as compelling as it is ignorable". Or summat like that. So maybe it is.
