people should talk about this more. this is some hot stuff. reminds me of idm a lot of the time. but it's dancy, just it's a gloomy dance.

I haven't heard anything from this yet but the whole Birmingham crew is extremely promising--they just don't release enough. When Female released "Advanced Bossa" in 2005, I thought the same thing--techno and IDM coming together in a "roots" Aphex way or whatever...a sound worth developing but that was forever ago. Does Feed Forward have any "teeth" like this? (I understand Female isn't part of SD but "birds of a feather" and all that)

When I was listening to it I was reminded of something like Autechre-Amber, or maybe B12 floating above the most;y straight-forward beats. Something about the synth sounds/pads. It's got this distant electro/idm feeling. Not so much Aphex. unless it's SAWII over beats.

The whole Sandwell thing is pretty vague tbh, beyond the name I don't think you can really call them a 'Birmingham Crew' considering Sumner and Mendez are from the US and Regis has said he contributed very little to the LP. The sound really isn't in the same ballpark as Advanced Bossa - it's much less aerobic.

This is a decent primer on SD

Listening to Feed Forward did move me to dig out my old Downwards stuff though (even though Sandwell is a lot less punishing) and I'm really tripping on Female right now. Angel Plague is a stone cold classic as far as I'm concerned.

I need some help guys.

Has 'Feed Forward' been released on CD? I just brought 'Feed-Forward' from Juno, and it's not the right cd i got, I got the 'Sandwell District' album. Their discography is so confusing to me. Where can i get this version of 'Falling The Same Way'?:

"Feed forward" hasn't been released on CD. "Sandwell district" is their only release available on compact disc right now. Too bad, really.

The "Feed forward" vinyl is only available for insane prices nowadays... Available copies on Discogs

Thanks for the info.

That sucks. I don't collect vinyl. And it doesn't have digital release either. :trashbear:

The 'Sandwell District' album I just got is just a bunch of live and remix versions. Why would they release that on CD instead of Feed-Forward?

I understand your disappointment.

Personally, I'm really fond of this compilation.

If this can offer you any kind of consolation: According to some guy called "Maroko" on Discogs, some of the versions on the cd aren't really that different from the ones on "Feed forward" and its surrounding releases.

Here's what he writes about the tracks on the cd:

Immolare (Function Version) is actually a combination of the A1 track on "Feed Forward" 2xLP [sD2X12" 01], the A tune on "Feed Forward Versions" [sDSMP3] and the final ambient passage found on the B side of the bonus 7" you received with the 2xLP "Feed Forward" album.

Grey Cut Out (Version) is to my knowledge a new take on the vinyl version, where it's the B1 track.

Blood Tide (Regis Mix) is the B2 track on "Sandwell District (Sampler Single Two)" [sDSMP2], and there it is titled "Female – (Regis Edit)".

Hunting Lodge (Live) is the same version which appears on "Feed Forward Test Session" [sDLPLIVE1]. There, it's the A side track.

Falling The Same Way (Version) is basically identical to the B side tune on "Feed Forward Versions" [sDSMP3], with one exception: on that release, the track fades out just before the seven minute mark, while here it lasts for approximately three minutes more, which is - obviously - great.

Svar (Live) is the same version which appears on "Feed Forward Test Session" [sDLPLIVE1]. There, it's the B side track.

It is daft they didnt release it on cd or download properly, You can get the samplers that came out before the album on download and some wicked stuff on there, well worth a few quid.

As for the alum its pretty easy to find on the internet to steal if you are so inclined, Think the fact they didnt bother releasing it properly means its less of a moral issue! and the album is a stone cold classic so is such a shame that people that want it cant get it!!

Btw is the CD worth getting if you have the proper album? Not sure whether to bother or not if its mostly different versions of the same stuff?

Just to add to the confusion, the album is actually available on Beatport but only contains about half the tracks (six out of ten). Beatport also have different versions of those sampler EPs (called "Untitled 1" and "Untitled 2").

I think maybe some of the CD tracks that are missing from the Beatport-download version of the album are actually on those Untitled EPs, but that's just my guess from looking at the timings and (very) sparse track info.

I've been listening to the original 'Feed-Forward' tracks for quite a while on youtube. And my two favorite tracks (Grey Cut Out & Falling The Same Way) are very different on the release I got. And I really don't like them to be honest. But yeah, I'm probably going to download it, since they are to lazy to actually make a proper release. I just like to have, what I consider good albums, as CD's in my collection.

Feed Forward has been released digitally, albeit it's yet again a different tracklisting and seems to borrow more from the Sandwell District CD than the original Feed Forward vinyl (which is the superior version IMO)

Bleep
