New computer help.

Hey guys, i just bought a new Lenovo i3 computer with Windows 7.

So i go home, hook everything up, download FL Studio, the plugins, and iTunes. And I plug in my old ass speakers, and i get no sound at all. And there is a setting to put the power of both speakers into the right side one, so it distorts wayyy to much.

I honestly tried a lot of things to fix it but can't figure it out, and my next option is to just call geek squad. (and i am buying brand new studio monitors soon too.)

Can anybody at least try to guess what the problem could be?

THANKS =]

sounds like a very n00bish problem (sorry) but what I mean is it could be loads of things - all probably very simple to rectify. i would first look in the windows audio settings and make sure the balance and volume controls are set right. also make sure you've plugged the speakers into the correct output - eg you might have plugged them into the mic by mistake. you also need to check the audio settings in iTunes and fruity loops and make sure they're set to output audio to the right device (I assume you're just using the built-in audio output). if all that is correct your speakers may simply be fucked.

in the longer term, I strongly suggest you get an external USB soundcard and some half decent monitors (can get teeny edirol ones for less than £100 which are ok).
