FX units

Recommended Posts

i was looking into cheap fx units, new ones from a local store. seems guitar fx type units aren't that expensive. i was looking into digitech multifx units. multifx is very important and also important that the thing can do a bunch of different effects at the same time

digitech rp155 ?

it doesn't matter if it transfomrs my sound into something crazy, i got vsts for that, i'd be using it to tweak and inpsire while i multitrack

is this a good unit?

Not sure what you would be getting out of a digital hardware unit that you couldn't get out of your DAW + bunch of free VSTs.

Am I missing something? Are you multitracking in analogue?

Guitar multifx like the one you linked usually have predefined patches where you can only tweak one or two settings like delay time or distortion amount. They're optimised to be useful for guitar/bass and you cant get too weird with them. Also, they whole unit is optimised for the frequency range of a guitar, which is not wide. If you want it to sound lush on drums or synths you might be dissapoint.

if you're working in digital i'd suggest getting a knob box like a bcr2000 and hooking up a bunch of software fx - hook up the parameters to the knobs and the bypass functions to the buttons. then save it as a layout or whatever in your daw. then you've got a hands-on effects sandbox for inspirational purposes

edit: i have acid and a bcr2000 so i'll give this a try when i get home

Why the 1 and 3 specifically? What's wrong with the KP2? I've generally heard the KP2 is far better than the original one. I'm curious because I was actually thinking about picking up a KP2, and the KP3 is out of my price range.

never really bothered with the kaoss pads but have eyed them for years. i already wail on my novation remote's touchpad, and the remote can control all manner of whatever. is it just some flangers and delay on a touchpad? how weird can it get? and yes, please tell me more about 1 vs 2 vs 3 because i haven't a clue myself.

actually i have a digitech rp150 and it's awesome, it connects via usb, and each effect is completely customisable through included software. it also supports recording via usb cable if you're that way inclined. and it's very possible to get some really odd sounds out of them! the pitch shifter is top notch, almost the quality of their whammy pedal.

lol. well you can also use the knobs on the pedal to adjust the parameters, although there are a few more features that need to be accessed via the software.

i'm not gonna stop talking it up! it's got probably the second best digital reverb i've heard in an effects unit. behringer virtualizer pro and alesis quadraverb are tied for first place :emotawesomepm9:
