question about computer cables

ethernet and usb cables. the longer the cables for either does it slow down the information transfer??

really depends:

 

--ethernet is good to 50 or 100 feet. not sure how it goes with gigabit, ive only just switched over to that myself.

--firewire you need an active extension thingy. can't just be a piece of wire.

--usb you can't chain more than 30feet or so before it starts shitting out, particularly for data-heavy fings

--ps/2 never had a problem but never gone over 20-30ft.

--video you get some noise. i mean svga, i haven't tried dvi extenders. just ordered some, we'll see!!

^ i have a similar case. i'm trying to record video with "EOS Camera Movie Record" on a 40D and 5 meters is too much.

For me it has to do with using usb to program firmware on an embedded processor.

 

When you are working with OTG, or even just the micro-usb form factor, the cable has to be a lot shorter.
