see, i live in wisconsin. when he retired the first time, i heard about it constantly. the talk about him has increased exponentially ever since. i don't give a fuck about football, don't watch it, hate it, etc. but it's unavoidable.

Ahhhh interessssting - I'm gathering from your response that he's also probably got a bit of an annoying personality. . . plus, I imagine if you don't really give a fuck about the sport, it's got to be REALLY annoying to hear about this sort of shit everywhere you go.

Similar effect here - live in a college town where, if you don't like college basketball, it's a SIN - people get their balls all up in a shackle - like the world was going to end if you don't realize that there happens to be a game tonight or response with "who?" when someone mentions one the players performances.

i don't have tv and i don't really know who this is except for what i pick up entirely through osmosis alone.

but where i work everyone is big into sports and i hear names being tossed around a lot here and there. so i tend to make it a habit to walk into the kitchen and yell shit like "BRET FARBS" and it gets people all worked up, conversations start up and sometimes arguments. damn, there was another name that you could yell and it would get the cooks all riled up.... i forgot it.

one time, after doing exactly that, someone tried to talk to me about sports, and whomever's name i called out, and i admitted to him that i honestly didn't even know who it was or anything about him other than that he was on the spotlight. he didn't believe me and thought i was just being a jerk.

oh, i should mention that he wasn't very smart.

haha none of my friends are into sports and we'll ALL do stuff like this at bars and whatnot. i guess the lions are getting better because my roommate used to always just say "well, the lions suck!" whenever anyone would talk about football and i guess someone talked at him for half an hour about how no, the lions are actually doing pretty good and might actually be contenders next year or something!

but yeah. the packers and the bears are playing on sunday to see who goes to the superbowl. i live just north of the border with illinois so it's heated and just fucking stupid right now. GO PACK GO BEARS SHUT THE FUCK UP.
