NBC and comcast merger

"Keith Olbermann's 8-year career with MSNBC came to an abrupt end last night when he was fired by MSNBC. Olbermann's show, "Countdown With Keith Olbermann" was the highest-rated show on MSBNC and one of the most succesfull political shows in the history of television, yet he was fired abruptly. From a business standpoint this makes little sense. And, from a broadcasting perspective it makes no sense. Let's dig deeper shall we.

It's funny that the FCC approved Comcast's merger with NBC-Universal this week. And, Comcast CEO Brian Roberts is a staunch Republican supporter having co-hosted the 2000 Republican Convention. A report is out that Comcast wanted to "tinker" with the MSNBC format for months. Here's my take on this. Brian Roberts let his politics get in the way of his decision-making. Keith Olbermann is a very strong critic of Republicans and that just wasn't going to fly. Olbermann is far from objective when it comes to his arguments in favor of Democrats, while opposing Republicans. However, the same goes for any other political talk show. According to Forbes, the timing of Comcast's merger and Keith Olbermann's firing seems pretty suspect."

LOL, well to honest he should have been fired the first time for being a liability, but it looks like they finished the job. good riddance to another purposeless talking head. Nothing worse than a host that believes he's funny & entertaining and isn't.

as for Comcast/NBC Universal, that's all kind of big and scary. And i'm not hearing that much about it either. mmmm. remember what a big deal the AOL/Time Warner merger was at the time. wow, i don't know how much bigger this is but it feels like Independence Day (ID4).

id be interested to see how well this erases even the slightest subversion from the "two-party" narrative.

and thats not in reference to olbermann, that guy was an idiot and deserves the boot as much as O'reilly and all the others.

but the fact that a Republican owns a network branded the liberal media bastion.

olbermann was my guilty pleasure, i'll admit it. not as much as maddow (swoon!) but i mean come on, acerbic, biased opinion (that [unlike o'reilly and beck and their ilk] never pretended to be actual journalism) from a standpoint that i tend to agree with more often than not is cathartic as all fuck.

but yeah, this is beyond suspect. comcast were the people that tried to get him fired back in november for donating to political candidates, which is something he never tried to hide, and is perfectly allowable when said candidate is republican. it's just another step towards corporate oligarchy, not really surprising in the least.
