Guest rumbo
Maybe there are some people here who'll find this info useful. Messiah studio is offering their 3D animation package for $10 (basic) and $40 (Pro) for a limited time. The pro version usually retails at $1200... Check this link: http://projectmessiah.com/x6/shop.html They have a "Goal" bar, once enough people order the discounted package, and the bar reaches the end, they send out our Messiah licenses. If the goal is not met by a certain date, they refund all our cash. Can't lose with this, but it's success depends on people telling others about it so they can decide to purchase. Messiah is a fully functional animation, hair/fur dynamics collision, rigger, renderer. The only thing it doesn't do is modelling, which you need a program like Lightwave, Blender, 3D Max or Maya for. It's been used on quite a few major motion pictures like Harry Potter and Hellboy. Check out some clips of what people have done in Messiah: http://projectmessiah.com/x6/gallery.html I work in the animation industry and am in constant contact with sound designers. Some of them also dabble in animation and motiongraphics, so I figured people here might be interested also. I have ordered a Pro edition for $40. You can order a personal Basic copy for $10 if it suits you. Why would you not? It's 10 bucks for a professional 3D application... Guest rumbo
I found this example of Messiah work particularly cool: Your browser does not support the HTML5 video tag http://www.projectmessiah.com/x6/vids/gallery/dingsdale05.mov Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/63683-want-a-professional-3d-application-for-only-10/#findComment-1512962 Share on other sites

Guest rumbo
Those physics simulations look pretty cool. But there are reasons why Blender is free. One of those being it's horrendous interface. There's no such thing as a casual Blender user. Prepare to marry yourself to it. Messiah doesn't try to do everything. But what it does do, is done very well. The support is worth the $10 alone. Guest rumbo
The progress bar is at 432 pixels out of a possible 832 (complete green area), at 52%. Everyone should be jumping at this opportunity or you will miss out. After the goal is met, the software reverts to $1200 for the pro edition. Jump in now and you get it for $40 (or $10 if you just want the basic edition). I don't work for PMG, I just want this character animation software for $40. Guest Billov
So very tempted man... Do you think this will be worth such a little investment for further down the line? I've only had some experience with 3dsmax, just started a little rigging and character animation. I don't really know if animation is something I'm gonna have time for later in my life. I'm studying Model Making and digital effects, primarily building physical models, with a bit of digital. Then again, what other options are there in the market? Is Messiah "the best" at what it does? It seems a lot more intuitive and user friendly than max. What say you sir? Guest rumbo
Billov, Messiah is designed by animators, and focuses on being an animation tool. Most programs like Maya, 3D Max etc. are tier 1 development tools and do everything more or less well. Messiah concentrates on animation and rendering, and does away with modelling tools to focus on its strengths. It is a tool used as part of a pipeline. This makes it very compatible with a lot of other programs concerning importing and exporting, including maya and 3D max etc. It's rigging tools are fantastic and it's renderer is beautiful. This offer is unbelievably good value. Here is a short film in production using Messiah: [vimeo]17202761[/vimeo] Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/63683-want-a-professional-3d-application-for-only-10/#findComment-1513495 Share on other sites
Ego Posted February 10, 2011 Report Share Edit Hide Delete Posted February 10, 2011 (edited) You can't really top Maya and 3D S Max on scope, they try to offer you everything and have funds to back it up. (and third party render engines etc.) But there's a lot of software that is more affordable and does some things better, or makes them a bit easier. In the end, it's just a tool. You can make pretty pictures with all of them. Maya and Max will probably stay industry leaders for a long time, but it doesn't really matter since you can often just export and import. There is a lot of software that fills a certain niche. Zbrush is a great example. I'd say it's an interesting offer. I'm pretty good at 3DS and Blender and sort of abandoned my professional "3D artist" ambitions so I'll pass on learning another 3D tool. And yeah, Blender's interface is a mess to wrap your head around. It does too many things completely different from other suites. I'm not a fan either. Guest Billov
Awesome, I was looking around for some comparisons and stuff to put it into context. this kinda helped http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=4417786#4417786 plus some other free/cheap programs he suggests http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=4417765#4417765 Might as well grab a pro version, I don't want to realize down the line how much better the pro version is, and then have to pay a billion quid to upgrade ¬_¬ Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/63683-want-a-professional-3d-application-for-only-10/#findComment-1513504 Share on other sites
Guest rumbo
Hi Ego. People should also take into account that 3D Max retail cost is $4500, and Maya is around $3000. They are industry standards and are musts to learn for people who want to work in the industry. But then you are not required to buy it in order to be an employee, unless you freelance. I'd say $10 for a hobbyist is more than a bargain, and there are several low cost or free modelling tools out there. Programs like Zbrush and Mudbox have blown open the "all in one" package idea and expanded the pipeline. There are other tools like 3D Coat for painting textures directly onto the model which stand outside of the major 3D packages as a pipeline tool. Smaller companies are focusing on single aspects of 3D production and making easier to use and intuitive solutions to them. Billov, I also got a Pro version. Unlimited render nodes and multicore CPU support (up to 16 cores) will be handy to have in the future. Guest futuregirlfriend
The most recent version of Blender (2.5+ beta) is a big improvement imo, there are some good resources for learning things now too http://www.blendercookie.com/getting-started-with-blender/ I've used a fair few 3D programs and C4D is the one that I've fallen for. Signing up for it didn't seem very strict... maybe I could sign up again after 3 years with someone elses name hurrrhurrhurr :sup: Anyway, I'd love to get into some proper modeling and animating in my own free time, we simply learn tooo slowly in college its so tedious and stagnant. Guest happycase
Holy shit. This is tedious work and the learning curve is too steep for me. I'm just ordering the ten dollar version and will probably focus my efforts, if I make any, on getting user-friendly with blender. Are blender and Messiah compatible for import/export? Guest futuregirlfriend
technology is pretty boring. what is it that you actually want to do? and yeah you can move projects through most 3d applications + be aware that you can't create models with this messiah program.
