Prince to me is completely up there with the greatest. Huge back catalogue, and a gigantic array of tunes that are awesome. LOVE this purple motherfucker.

I would love to see him live. He's so cool that annoying hipster kids have to bite on his tunes; La Roux (yeah, remember them?) in their song 'quicksand' you can hear 'when doves cry'.

Yeah, my Prince obsession wasn't quite as strong back in 2007 when he played all those dates at the o2... I'd be there in a shot if he played over here now. Conversely I think me and the housemates are supposed to be going to some 80s night tonight here in Brighton. Whoever is DJing is going to get pestered by me for Prince a LOT

I know there's a 60's night in Brighton tonight didn't know there was an 80's one....haha. Yeah I think if you see him it would have had to have been in his 'hay day', but I guess that's like most artists.

my favorite era of his was around 1982-1989 (1999 through batman soundtrack). made a Prince Slow Jams Mixtape back in the day. if i can remember, it were these tracks.

It sounds bizarre, but I've only just now gotten into Prince. He's a fun dude to collect releases of, that's for sure.

He reminds me of another artist I've just recently gotten into—Bob Dylan—in the sense that even his "bad" releases are still well worth checking out and listening to. There's almost always a few genius moments on even the worst Prince record, I find. And I'm including crazy stuff like the 3-CD he released via Target and the live disc that comes with the big purple "21 Nights" photobook that he put out. Which, by the way, Borders sometimes sells for 5 dollars, if you are near a Borders store.

Some good personal favourites on that mixtape. The Ballad of Dorothy Parker I'm crazy about at the moment, production is INCREDIBLE, all those mini snare rushes! Shame that Youtube rip doesn't do it justice at all :(

Bought Diamonds & Pearls on vinyl today for £3 too!

back when i was a senior in highschool, I rode a motorcycle to school. back then, there were no helmet laws in Cali. My hair was long (kinda like michael hutchens style) and I had those round spec shades. I didn't hear the last of it the rest of my school year. people sang when doves cry to me all the time in the halls. another time, an exgirlfriend came to my window to wake me up to take her to school. I open the shades wearing nothing but a towel around my waist. she turned around and told everyone at school that i basically looked like this scene in the video:

ah to have hair again!

I saw him live at the Birmingham NEC years back, around the time of Graffiti Bridge. He was predictably awesome as I remember, although by then I was losing interest in his music and wasn't so up for it as I would've been a few years prior. Best albums for me have got to be Dirty Mind, Sign O The Times and The Black Album. I think the last one so much because I remember the hoo-hah at the time and it being shelved and mysterious and all and how exciting it was to get a bootleg tape of it. Still love it now though, some sexy shit on that record.

"Sign O The Times" is an awesome album.

yeah... sign o' the times if my favorite of his... i remember the story behind the black album was that is was supposed to be released with sign... and called "the crystal ball"

That's a funk explosion of coolness. That would have been amazing to see, I saw James Brown couple years ago and the energy was amazing I can't imagine what it was like with prince and Michael Jackson too!

Jill Jones was that one blonde haired girl that played keyboards side by side with wendy in the 1999 video... this song sucks but she was a super hottie!

Androgynous Jehova's witness for the win, i actually like Prince's music. alot

btw: i'm having a hell of time finding any Prince songs on youtube to post here, he seems very aggressive in going after unauthorized videos or stuff of his on the net. very dumb priority especially after watching that Neil Gaiman video
