does he master his own shit?

Recommended Posts

Some of his early stuff was mastered by George Peckham (otherwise known as the man behind "A porky prime cut").

Can't say how much input they have into the mastering of their discs.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

i'm fairly sure he has mastered his own shit.

seriously, though, Warp do like to use 'proper' mastering engineers, though.

i don't think he actually bothers mastering it himself. why would you? (if soembody else could do it for you, and better, with proper shits)

Why don't they get album credits?

Usually it says, Everything by Aphex Twin.

Frank Awkright always used to get a mention.

but some people just don't like putting any kind of thanks to anybody in the inlay////// fair 'nuff.

I bet nobody mastered most of his warp stuff or it was Richard himself.

almost every Richard D James release is mastered by someone that is not him fyi, check the linear notes for his cds or the discogs details. Not even the masters Autechre master their own releases.

edit: it is amusing to me that since people deify artists like Aphex twin they find it almost unbelievable that they would let someone else alter the mastering curve of their tracks.

edit2: IE, this guy Matt Colton mastered Rushup Edge http://www.discogs.com/artist/Matt+Colton?anv=Matt

Autechre master their own releases.

Draft 7.30: Mastered by Noel Summerville

EP7: Mastered by Frank Arkwright

Peel Sessions are "Everything done by Autechre"

I'm too lazy to pull out my copy of Oversteps to check to see if it says anything.

I think you missed the "Not even the masters" preceeding your Awepittance quote...

If you want to hear what Richard's releases sound like without external mastering, just listen to the "pre-mastered" Analord releases. They sound awesome, but are missing a bit of sparkle and excitement.

I read them as two separate sentences for some reason.

does anyone know how aphex achieves quality in his analord and onwards releases.... i dont mean what synths and drum machines he uses but the quality he achieves from the way he records or effects hes using, jodey kendrick also has the same sound ?

i've given a lot of thought to this

aside from real mastering which gives the sound a serious 20-30% "KICK IN THE PANTS/SHINE ON TOP" there is a layer of eq/instrument separation that is just impeccable

if you compare the wisp releases to the analords or drugks there is an obvious difference

it all sounds so compressed,eg'd and all tone bands are "separate"

i think we are hearing high bit rate ad/da conversions, killer eqs] -real high end expensive plug ins and band compression etc

plus rdj.'s ears

but the level of clarity and separation is intense

tom had that on ultravisitor and then…lost it?
