YLC changes

Recommended Posts

i havent even been in there in weeks. sooooooo much stuff. I just dont have the time, nor the energy. Plus, if I don't like something, I'm just not going to post, rather than berate it. I'm sure I'm missing out on a lot of decent shit too. Also, I get really SICK of people saying that YLC is just a bunch of analord clones. Yeah, maybe 4 years ago.

^As far as internet techno goes I've always found there's been roughly equal amounts of stuff I thought was badly-produced *well known musician* rip-off & stuff I thought was good. Thing is, there is also a lot of stuff that sounds like badly-produced *well known musician* rip-off yet still manages to feel enjoyable somehow, which makes it hard for me to form an opinion many tracks.

for listening, i think soundcloud is great. i try to listen to everything that goes through the "incoming tracks" part of the dashboard. i also post a lot more of my stuff to soundcloud, whereas with YLC i maybe just post a bit or bob i think watmm might enjoy...

I just don't go in there any more. I share tracks around through pm's, soundcloud etc with people who's opinions I trust and they kind of know what I'm going for/style or whatever.

I'm sitting on a ton of tracks, which I guarantee will be awesome. However (for better or worse) they're very elaborate and scored for acoustic instruments so I will be waiting to release them until I can record them properly this summer and release them as an album, which I guarantee you will all be hearing about when the time comes.

I get alot more comments on my Soundcloud page than I do in my YLC thread.

"besides, is it me or is the music posted a lot more generic than it used to be?"

It's you.

Yeah sometimes I wonder "whats the point?"

I can slang out my songs via soundcloud or manually to people I know. My only reason for posting it in YLC would be if I wanted a ton of criticism and potential trolling.

Wattem Soundcloud page - http://soundcloud.com/groups/watmm/tracks

edit, god damnit! cant post the link without the first track coming up, which so happens to be mine! Click the 'listen on soundcloud' thing and it should open in a new window.

Just had a quick listen to the first 2 pages and there is a LOT of variation there, not one anal lord rip off that I can hear!

I'm on several tune maker forums, but even if I was just focusing on WATMM there are so many people to go through that I have to pick & choose at random or else I'd never have time for anything else. Compilation albums can be a good time saver, as I generally end up following the creators of any tracks I enjoyed on one.

Also, I used to just post most of what I made as I made it but I stopped doing that last year, reasoning being that if you release half-baked demo tracks every week it sort of dulls people to your stuff after a while, or even worse makes you look at a potentially good track that's currently just a mediocre demo track & think "good enough". The lack of a quality control is probably the biggest problem with independent internet media, in my opinion.
