Fennesz - Seven Stars

I don't know if I should get excited for this. Black Summer or whatever the fuck that last one was called and his last thousand collaborations and especially his sleepdeath inducing lps with sakamoto have been pretty disappointing for me. Basically everything he has released since 2005. Which sucks because he's still in my top ten of working artists.

edit: christ, he's doing another sakamoto album

I'm still gonna buy the new Fennesz Sakamoto album and give it a try. I'll buy anything Fennesz puts his name on and listen to it at least a couple of times.

My bad :/ It was such a bad post by me contributing nothing new with my "looking forward to this" statement...and it was really obvious that someone was going to do that post that Pigster did :)

Its been a lot of "looking forward to this" comments from my side lately.

I have a feeling that this EP will be off the chain tho...the name of the EP alone gets me hyped, also the first tracks name Liminal...:O:D

*Seven Stars features Steven Hess on drums, recorded at Amannstudios by Christoph Amann

Fennesz's first solo release since "Black Sea" [Touch # TO:76, 2008] is a 4 track 10" vinyl, with a CD version due in September 2011. It will also be available as a digital download. Using acoustic and electric guitars, bass, synths, computers, Fennesz continues to engage and entrance us in equal measure.

Fennesz writes: "Seven Stars was recorded in Vienna in January 2011. I recorded and mixed the album within 3 weeks. Liminal and July were existing pieces which i have reworked. (I wrote an early version of Liminal in a hotel room in Bali in 2010). There is also a version of Liminal that I have been playing live for some time. My friend Steven Hess, with whom I have worked before, happened to be in Vienna at the time of the sessions, so I invited him to join me in the studio. Christoph Amann recorded the drums using a selection of his great microphones including his amazing new Josephson.

I wanted to make a record that has a certain lightness about it and at the same time explore new territory using drums on one track. This might be something I will continue with in the future."

Curious about the drum thing... hope it works for me

You can't call something shorter than 20 minutes an album surely ?! In my day that was a single ....

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

it's great

it has some endless summer vibes to it

Liminal contains a tune i've heard in some live performances, glad it's been released. Too bad the track isn't any longer. Or on an album, since i'm not big into EP's.

Don't know what to think of last track. It's good, but I'm not sure about the drums. They feel intruisive to me. Don't know what direction it will go when he is going to use drums more.

Didn't like. Sounds like old news, he went back to the Endless Summer thing, which was excellent at the time, but now it quite sounds old and uninspired.

To me, it doesn't sound like endless summer, except that you might call it pretty sounding. Endless Summer had more grit to it. This one sounds pretty good to me, but gets closer to new age than anything else I've heard from him.
