Tracker/computer for MIDI sequencing

Recommended Posts

What do you think is the most solid tracker for connecting MIDI to?

Is it better to use old ataris than say a pc?

I know people like Legowelt use trackers to connect to their old analog synths and stuff.

since i have experience with the old impulse tracker, i thought it would be kind

of fun way to make tracks.

rolling renoise

seriously though, why not renoise? it's as good as modern trackers get. i used impulse tracker for about 10 years before switching to renoise.

sure, the interface / commands etc. has more in common with fast tracker 2 than impulse tracker, but you get over it pretty fast.

Personally I really want an atari or commodore or something with a direct midi port and simple sequencing software, because I get real sick of the layers of bullshit I have to go through to midi sequence hardware currently, especially considering the massive delay from usb to midi. Plus I get bogged down by all the distractions of a modern PC.

I have an alesis MMT-8 as well and I fucking hate it.

Buzz worked really well the first time I used it with my USB MIDI interface. After that though, it just stopped working. The interface still works fine with other software, but Buzz just doesn't send any data through the cable anymore, despite acknowledging it as a device. Strange!

Renoise has a tool called guru which provides a graphical front-end for your hardware synths so you can edit them through your computer screen. New stuff is being added all the time and there's a guide how to create your own definitions. Check this thread for more info: http://forum.renoise.com/index.php?/topic/34760-new-tool-28-guru/

I've been wanting to play with renoise + external hardware for a while. Maybe I'll do that once the Ambient project if over with.
