hello

so as some of you may remember, ive got a decent repertoire of music that ive written. ive basically been hording it from everyone. its time to release some of it. i cant explain why because i dont understand, i just have this feeling that im supposed to do it, and my entire life has basically been building up to it

my question is, under what style should i release it? and by should, i mean, what would listeners prefer in this day and age? dont misinterpret me, i make music for me, and dont really care what people think about it. i think releasing is different though, its for the people. say i was to try to start a small career out of it, which is what ive basically been dreaming my entire life. i didnt rush out though after i thought i had some cool tunes. i spent years developing my sound, and its still morphing. but some of this stuff ive written should just come out. it would be plain wrong if it didnt

what style though? ive got multiple versions of all my favorite songs, im also able to rewrite any song of mine into another style. i just dont know what type people want now days. i ask because im trying to not be so selfish. i want to give the people what they want. this is actually an incredibly complex issue i believe, for reasons im not going to get into because it would take so long to type out, but lets have some ideas

house? dance? pop? fucking insane shit that makes venetian snares sound like the beatles?

another reason why i want to release it is because ive been suffering from a serious health issue, and i may pass away relatively soon. i want my best stuff to get out there before that happens

peace and love to you all

if im going to release it, i have to "play the game"

theres a rare video interview of aphex twin, where he describes the state of the electronic music industry, and discusses the unfortunate facts that one has to deal with when attempting an electronic music career

this is kind of what im talking about. if i release it as is as Across Canyons suggested, it would basically be career suicide. im not bob katz or aphex twin, nor will i pretend to have skills like that. in addition to that, my ears have received significant damage from all the writing, so it sounds like my ears have been EQd, and ive developed tinnitus

i fear that even if i survive, my ears wont, and i wont be able to release my music without the help of a producer, which conflicts with what i wanted to do with my music in the first place

does this make sense?

and sneaksta, you aint hearin a peep till it comes out, all of you

unless you are a relatively well know label owner, dont bother asking me for my music

Just release a single in one style, and on the flipside have a remix.

Just follow fiddy's advice

well how the hell are you expecting us to tell you where your music should go when we know nothing about what your current stuff sounds like. release some stuff under one pseudonym (as it is now) and if the response isn't how you want it mix your stuff up and release under another - then there's no risk of "career suicide" because no one will know they're the same guy unless you want them to.

what does everyone think about an artists first release being a single or EP instead of the classic LP?

Really don't care. Release as much or as little as you like, in what order you like and in whatever style you see fit. In this day and age the format of the release is completely unimportant. If you feel certain tracks complement each other then by all means release them together but don't do it because you want a full album's worth of material.

I think electronic music is almost as mainstream as anything else

methinx the right label with a similar out look on the music they distribute is better than sticking to a dedicated genre but if its big bucks you want then dubstep and breakcore seem to be the crowd pleaser's theses days

3 options

1. pop career style : release what you think people would most like on a larger scale, what would be successful. follow the steps and work on creating a professional "pacakge" to email/mail to labels you think would make you money. mail it to them over and over.

2. art career style : make the album exactly how you want. go to any label you want. you want it heard? i don't know... fuck "art career" style... is my opinion.

3. a mix of the two. or start your own label or do something cool like what OFWGKTA did with their hype and website. it's all in your hands. don't release it here and don't allow there to be any connection drawn between the music and your online persona, just as you won't between your online and real life persona. keep it extremely strict.

this is what i personally plan to do as part of my own uprising.

i'm concerned to release this EP to hook people/labels in with slightly more standard techno/dubstep tracks that took a day or so each to make then to release the album i've spent months and countless hours trying to perfect.

then there's the image, needing to make sure that comes out properly. health and confidence, and the need to perform live.

it's all probably quite easy in the end, that's my philosophy. i nearly had a release myself on a slightly above average respected label. it fell through and i take that as a sign that i need to shoot ten times higher. i want a Pitchfork review and i want it BNM.

that's how i'm thinking right now.

and obviously i don't want anybody when they see that review or hear that music to think back on

  Reveal hidden contents

...

arrogance? perhaps. but isn't that the point of the business side? to get heard and make a living? i don't want to work at the grocery store either.

are you for real dying though? if so that's ridiculous but i highly doubt you're going to die. as in 1 in 10000000000000000 chance based on what i've seen of your posts recenetly.

you heard it right here.

im just gonna drop a hint,

HOLLA DOGS EP on Blood Royale Records.

ET aint no joke dawg.

of course it is! if you're putting it out... nobody needs to know who it's by. so release all different styles!

you don't need to tell everybody your full name and address, your complete kit list and show them all your fucking holiday snaps from the past 5 years and tweet about how shit your day was!! unless your ego requires such recognition and attention.

oh, my bad, i thought you meant "only tell your friends, keep it secret, keep it safe" in regards to the music itself, not the name it's filed under. to be honest that's exactly what i do, release just about everything under different names. i have more fun doing it that way, but it's never been for fear of people recognizing my other projects. :P

edit, @ET: release it in the style you wrote it in
