It's basically been the unreleased follow up to Pet Sounds for over 40 years. Brian rerecorded Smile and released it as a solo album a few years back, but this is what was to be the real thing.

Yeah it was completely rerecorded based on the original compositions.

oh snap I was not aware of that. now I'm psyched for this.

Right, but what's coming out is the original recordings circa '66/'67.

yea that's why I'm psyched. I've had that other smile and was always meh. now I know why. I never really looked into it before but I'm really curious to hear the original.

bahaha

And yeah this will be cool, though it's hard to not see it as a cash grab from Capitol

Will be great to hear this. I like the new version a lot, but the production feels a bit too slick to me.

Probably less a cash grab than just a survival reflex, I mean w/ major labels like dying and all.

It's absolutely fucking fantastic.

I've got countless bootlegs but of course this canes them all as everything is in top quality and all the pieces sound consistant. It's fantastic to hear them in an order selected by Brian as it does flow through really well. Alot of people who assembled bootlegs were on the right track but they always got the Heros and Villains edits wrong, they put in too many takes.

this is amazing stuff.

i can relate to jules lack of interest in the brian wilson re-recorded version. i tried listening to that a few times and there was very little about it that grabbed me. this version is just so much better. it actually sounds like the followup to pet sounds it was supposed to be. very excellent ^^
