Reccomend me a recent(ish) good/weird PC game

Recommended Posts

I like American McGee's Alice a lot, being one of my favorite all time games. Quake is awesome and weird as well.

One additional important question: What's the most recent Final Fantasy for PC that's good? Not the live one, I know that's not very good. I may try one of these newer ones.

My issue is most of these FPS games are all military based and the story is related. I don't like this. I know the idea of a FPS is guns weapons killing things, and hey that's military. But American McGee's Alice really destroyed all that and made it something I like.

I've got a quad core 1 gig video card 4 gigs of ram, plenty of specs for any game pretty much.

I'm just finishing up Doom 3 (i know, seriously Jazz late to party) and it's been okay but it's a bit of a let down. Too dark, can't see wtf I'm shooting at half the time. Story is too slow and not really deep. Not to mention there's not much change in what you are doing the entire game, and the maps are boring. NOthing like Quake or Zelda levels. Just the same ol same ol military complex boring.

Games I like Quick list:

Alice

Quake I

Final Fantasy 1,2, and the one for SNES

Zelda (all)

Anime games

Zelda

Zelda

Kings Quest, Quest for Glory, anything related to those I absolutely love and I really miss that style of playing.

Puzzles (myst, Return to zork )

Monkey Island

Maniac Mansion

If anyone remembers that game in the 90's for PC called "Phantasmagoria" that was really cool. As was return to Zork (sorta).

Are there any Code Geass games that are any good (*googles while waiting for answer*)

Edit: Bonus points for something I can download from steam or similar, I'll go to the store if need be, but DL is a plus, but not necessary. Please don't tell me to by an xbox or ps.

"Texas-sized Alien" lol.

seriously, Prey is a breath of fresh air from your average FPS game. it used to be available on Steam, but i can't find it on the UK version of Steam...they have been known to censor / remove certain games from the UK though...Homeland is a recent example.

anyways, Prey should be pretty damn cheap now, wherever you get it from. pretty sure you won't regret buying it.

i'm not up much on recent, but i was hardcore into the adventure click games back when. some things were knocked loose from the back of my brain:

- if you never played Sam & Max back in the day, that game is epic.

- lost in time was pretty good as i remember http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_in_Time_%28video_game%29

- day of the tentacle

Maybe you should check out the new Back to the Future adventure games they're releasing on Steam. Supposedly, they're alright. Made by the guys who revived Sam and Max, Monkey Island and soon The Walking Dead: The Game and Jurassic Park... *sigh*

if you havent played half life 2 and the episodes you need to do that immediately

also portal.

also left 4 dead 1 and 2 if you like cooperative multiplayer, but dont bother if you are too shy to use a mic.

if you like puzzle games try ilomilo and braid, those are my two favorites of recent timse. very great games

Yeah, I guess enough ppl have said get half life 2. So i'll get that. I'll likely get Team fortress 2 as well so might as well get the pack. I still want to other types of games though. I tend to finish a game in a weekend while making songs on my electribe to the right of me.

Also anyone have any suggestions for a good mouse of control surface? Changing weapons in Doom 3 has been a major pain, i reassign them to closer numbers but it'd be nice to have something better.

Is Quake 4 any good? Or more of the same i'm getting with Doom 3?

Oh, what about Indigo Prophecy (also known as Fahrenheit outside of the US)? Great game. Goes mental half way through but still a great game.

quoted for being spot on. it's easier (and i find it more fun) to play L4D / L4D2 with friends, that way you can have some banter and stuff. and definitely make sure you have a mic.

i've got a scroll wheel but i like to be able to go to a certain thing quickly and not shuffle through all weapons.

Don't you use microphones in WOW? I know Mila Kunis is obsessed with WOW, I bet it'd be weird to run across her on there. I'm not going to touch WOW though, I'd never do anything else.

Final Fantasy XI looks like the most recent *good* FF for PC. Is it worth getting into now, or should I stick to trying to find more recent games.

Prey is fun. I just played and beat it a couple months ago.

But seriously, just get the orange box. You won't regret it, I promise you that.
