Places on the Internet That Can Learn You Stuff

Recommended Posts

Dear WATMM, I would like to recruit your help in gathering a list of websites that are educational and not shit.

So far I've got:

http://academicearth.org/

Lots of great lectures on various topics - I just finished watching the Harvard 'Justice' series. Really well put-together, and Sandel pretty much looks like a bald eagle, so that's a bonus.

http://www.learner.org/

Not sure where I found this one, but again, lots of well-done courses on a variety of subjects.

http://www.khanacademy.org/

Free digital school! Collecting badges for doing math exercises is awesome, and I don't really care if I'm too old to think that's exciting.

http://plato.stanford.edu/contents.html

Comprehensive philosophy resource for people like me who don't want to pay for philosophy courses but still like to think too hard and act smart for no particular reason. One of my teachers directed me there after I started pestering her about the Stoics.

http://www.ted.com

I hope most of you are familiar with TED already, but if not - go there now please.

So now, can I have your lists?

Same, just "enrolled" and it's so fun. Great links luke, will hold onto them.

I'm not sure how legal it is but mvgroup has a shitload of educational shows and movies.

nice list. I don't know many sites of the type but a few related come to mind:

wikihow: http://www.wikihow.com/

Tutorial for a lot of stuff, some of it very silly, some useful.

MIT open courseware: http://ocw.mit.edu/

Lecture notes, assignments and videos from all the courses and programs in MIT. not as good as it sounds but i've found some good things in there.

library nu (formerly gigapedia com) OMG BOOKS! this site will change your life. not sure if i can link it here.

i just wikistroll and follow the source links and learn about bizarre shit.

here is a fun game, go to wikipedia, click random article, and click links in the article until you get to hitler. it has NEVER taken me less than 6 clicks.

cool links gordo

and yeah chim - mvgroups is great. kaini mentioned it to me a while ago. i've seen some great docs through that place...and some crappy ones too (don't ever watch "who's afraid of a big black hole?", yeeeesh... but do watch the history of maths, that was awesome). there's also this site for that sort of thing: http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/

lol no, I am genuinely interested. But based on the small number of responses in this thread so far, perhaps watmm has a higher percentage of ricky retardos than I thought.

My apologies, tronic. We can expand the learnin' and thinkin's realm into other directions if that helps...

I know you're already familiar with Radiolab (because you once called me unspeakable names for not being familiar with it), but that's a good one too.

^ I think either kaini or Atop sent me that link, either way it's full of interesting business on a variety of subjects, and it's really ugly

It's an entertaining read yeah, haha.

Probably shouldn't leave out Wolfram Alpha. That website is smarter than all of us combined. :wtf:

Wolfram Alpha is now spamming every email address with the following question:

  Reveal hidden contents
