mcbpete
I've found out that my recent problems of my computer locking up when playing anything even slightly taxing is due to the worlds most unstable video card drivers (for my old school laptop ATI Radeon 9600/9700 laptop). For everything 2D it's a-ok, but 3D fucks it all up. If I revert back to my old drivers all is well but I need the new ones to run Jeskola Buzz (the new builds need it for various gui rendering tasks). To switch between the two is a pain in the ass as it means going to device manager, rolling back the drivers, rebooting, then to use buzz again (which I use almost daily) I then have to install the new drivers and reboot again. So is there *any* way to quickly switch between the two drivers, like some sort of utility that all I need to click on the drop down and choose which driver I want to use ? Bit of a weird one I know. Stoopid laptop. kaini
some laptops come with two video chipsets - typically ATI/NVIDIA and a less powerful intel chipset with a lower power consumption. i know for a fact some modern sony vaios and HPs can switch between the two without a reboot. but if your machine doesn't have that feature i reckon you're stuck with a reboot to switch. mcbpete
Hmm, I think my old drivers (dated May '04) must have matured on my drive in the years since I updated to newer ones. I happily have a stable certified driver AND Buzz happily works without bitching about my computer being shit. Yay (though also - huh, how on earth did that work ?)
