Intelligence rarely gets the limelight in America. It doesn't sell.

unless i am really naive and it represents the majority of americans?

nope

most of the time you'll only find extreme bigotry in america in either welding & automotive classes or in the deep south

I disagree. I see bigotry everywhere.

How can you say that? There's no reason to say, not to mention no solid proof, that bigots somehow gravitate to the automotive industry. The statement that people living in the south are extremely bigoted in this day and age is revealing of a particular kind of prejudice that you have demonstrated to be in agreement with.

Don't back down, ganus. There is truth to there being rampant ignorance and bigotry in the South. Of course this exists everywhere, but it is prevalent and obvious almost anywhere in the South. This is largely cultural and dates back to the Civil War, slavery, all that shit. If you take a good, long road trip in the south, you will experience racism, homophobia, xenophobia, god, and deep-fried everything. I was born in Houston and raised just outside of Atlanta. The Bible Belt can be a terrifying place.

Idiots with absurd supernatural beliefs get upset when another group of idiots with equally absurd but spuriously different supernatural beliefs move next door.

Hopefully they'll kill each other.

Great post. I was thinking of a way to say this. I wouldn't mind if this sort of thing happened every time a mosque, church, temple, or synagogue was erected. At least until they are no longer tax-exempt.

Ok, I'll take sides then. I hope the ones with the absurd supernatural beliefs win.

yeah, generalizing is pretty sweet.

How is that generalizing? If someone says they were invented by a celestial giant in the sky who loves them, I think you can go ahead and make a blanket statement that they have absurd supernatural beliefs.

And no, they're not all idiots. But at the very least they're nutty or delusional.

After the tsunami I was speaking to a moslem friend who was comparing the response to that of the floods in Pakistan last year, and he seemed to be inferring there was an element of racism at play as the tsunami seemed to garner more sympathy. I couldn't help but point out that perhaps he should be more sympathetic to the Japanese as according to his beliefs those who died in the tsunami were burning in hell, whereas those who died in Pakistan had a chance of going to heaven.
