Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

godamn i wish people would stop ejaculating over hendrix

sure he was a good guitarist who probably took a shitload of acid in his day

but he wasn't the be all and end all of guitarists, jeez.

even so, i know i'll never be as good as belew or fripp but i still play.

A lot of people get into music to play like that and succeed. But then what?

buy a 303 instead and stfu

those who can't play, program.

or those that could but can't be bothered sequence

saying that there are plenty of guitarists out there who are as skilled if not more so than hendrix but its rare any of them will make any money other than session playing or an unexposed band

i think the ideology of the rock n roll star holding a guitar is essentially the undoing of the genre in many ways

Trust me, that was tongue in cheek. I'll murder the fool that dares question my chops on the bassoon.

well he got into music even though there was no way he would ever be as good as Rev. Gary Davis or Muddy Waters and look what happened

I agree with the sentiment that the 'rock guitar idol' was a nail in the coffin of that particular type of music (well its integrity amongst discerning listeners maybe). Lead vocalists/lead guitarists seem like such stale and sort of embarassing conventions, but look how popular that culture continues to be amongst kids/teens/hipsters/whatever. I guess I'm just too old.

Hendrix was a gifted musician but it seems like people can never just talk about the music with someone like him. The whole persona has a life of its own outside the music. I am biased though because I prefer listening to music at home without having to stare at a performer setting his instrument on fire and all such nonsense. I'm not interested in musical stuntmen and I wouldn't care to see Rob and Sean shoot flaming arrows into their Machinedrums.

Yup... my friends judge a (rock/metal) show by 'the band just stood there and played their music' and say the show was a crap show. :trashbear:

But then they get all excited when the vocalist can't actually sing and the instrumentalists suck at their own songs, but when they run around the stage like maniacs and jump off the stacks, it's apparently a great show.

^Can't find the whole version of this performance, but I like this one because of the Beatles riff he throws in.

I love Hendrix but I don't understand the idea that no one will ever be as good. Who cares? Rock musicians never will, that point in time when rock was exciting is gone, and it's pathetic rock musicians attempt to achieve such infamy and status. Real musicians look at this, appreciate it, then do their own thing. it's always been full of bullshit and hype anyway, for example most people often don't realize that Hendrix played to only 200,000 people at Woodstock, most of the hippies had left already, leaving the actual fans.

Also, Noel Redding, Mitch Mitchell, and Billy Cox don't get enough credit for helping Jimi sound so awesome, because they weren't lighting shit on fire and wrecking their gear. That kind of sums up everything about rock I guess.

i know a band just like that but they dont take themselves that seriously and what they lack in talent is made up for with entertainment plus their groupie girlfriends are seriously hot rock chicks so who cares if you cant play for shit

however the wont be giving up their day jobs any time soon

Not everyone wants to play guitar or make music like that. Also, you know that Steve Vai is a better guitar player right?

You don't get it. Many rock bands are entertainers first and foremost. Some of the members happen to be gifted musicians but it isn't a requirement.

And about super gifted guitar players. Often it's too difficult to listen to them because it becomes more about showing off their wankery on the instrument than playing something that sounds good.

If you approach music this way, why bother at all? Music isn't about playing better than somebody else, it's expression.
