Dayvan Cowboy (Odd Nosdam Remix)

Long story short, I have never heard Dayvan Cowboy (Odd Nosdam Remix). That is, until a few minutes ago. My low bitrate copy of TCH EP dates back to around its time of release, when I had low standards of audio quality and album completeness. As a result, I was missing this track for years. But now that I have a decent copy of Trans Canada Highway, I've had the chance to hear every track in full CD quality.

And what a terrible, terrible remix it is. I waited three minutes to hear something vaguely resembling music, and when something did finally happen, it was just a pissy, watered-down version of the guitar loops from the original mix. Writing two minutes of content and diluting it with directionless, emotionless drones is not groundbreaking, or original. Although, perhaps it is original, because I've never actually heard someone create a track as powerfully bad as this before. I never thought it was possible for someone to come up with an excuse for a musical idea so petty and degenerate.

It's absolutely nothing like the original mix. If someone generated a piece of white noise in Audacity, and told me it was an Odd Nosdam mix, I'd say "Jesus Christ! If the Odd Nosdam mix sounds this good, imagine how good the original mix of Kid For Today would sound!"

Why hasn't anyone pointed out how ridiculously bad this mix is? Why hadn't anyone warned me? I've just had to recover from an anti-climax that could give a Japanese WWII solider Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Hopefully BoC won't allow any more guest remixes on their future releases.

I actually like this mix. Sure it doesn't resemble the original much but, Odd Nosdam took the song and made it something different than the original... It's supposed to be more of an ambient piece, and I think when taken in that sense, it works. I like the way the track kinda drones and pulses in, as if it was some sort of weak radio signal finally coming into phase or building itself from the drones as the song progresses. There's some interesting textural things happening with the sounds.

I use to like it back then to fall asleep to. I should listen to it again. I remember to like 1 or 2 releases of Odd Nosdam but then being turned off by the same effect he puts on nearly every song

I like it. It particularly stood out one time I walked the streets of Cork with a head full of acid.

There is a part at 3:34 where 3 or 4 chords are played that are distinctly Dayvan Cowboy. I like that bit.

I also see the distortion as very bagpipe like. Bit of a nod to their Scottishness maybe.

It's more of a soundscape than a song.

In a way, I like it more than the original track, once it gets going.

BoC should be ashamed that it's more lysergic (lol, shit word, psychadelic) than their current output. I think it has a dark power that most new Boards doesn't capture.

On the other hand, I can see how it's a shit song, too. It has only one idea - the sort of MBV wall of churning guitar sounds churning part - and that's it.

I suppose if you don't like Odd Nosdam's work in general, you wouldn't like the remix.
