Pitchfork got it wrong. this sounds like an instant classic to me. it's like endtroducing's funkier cousin. it's great.

eh i might give the album a shot, but based on samples, i could see what pitchfork was getting at. i can see the relationship to music like endtroducing, but to me, that's because it seemed like the album has some pretty meandering trip-hop-esque tracks littered throughout.

Isn't 6.8 what pitchfork give music?

J.Rocc's a great dj and the few compilation trax he's done for stone's throw have been good, so I'll probably give this a spin

psh everything that i've heard j rocc produce has been really drawn out, hazy trip-hop-tempo hip hop—like gaslamp killer, but without as much of a penchant for psychedelic music. and gaslamp killer is almost exclusively boring. but on the other hand

His involvement with BK 5 and 6 was enough to make me me interested in this album, but thankfully the record itself was enough to justify that as it stands up in its own right perfectly well. Glad I held out for the physical release as the Mystery Disc was worth the wait, although I now want to hear all of them (three in total, I believe).
