imageshack has shot itself in the foot

it now wants you to sign up in order to get the "direct link." i use firebug to peek in the form object they've walled off, and get the link without signing up.

 

but now i note, it seems to be taking the animation out of animated gifs. unacceptable !

 

i liked the site, it was good... but no more. farewell, imageshack

imgur.com has been the best choice for a while. doesn't look like it's going anywhere, either. their upload interface is kind of over-designed, though.

yeah, i wondered why every image i check on here seems to be from imgur. Now i know what and why.

I think tinypic is still okay but they make you do the ReCaptcha thing which is a bit annoying. Imageshack still works if you fish the direct link out of the forum code. I've never tried imgur, I will if I remember it next time I need one. I only really use these sites to host weird images that I don't want on my server, but then again tinypic kept deleting all my wrong mspaints so I had to host them.

i like their interface largely just because you can drag and drop right onto the browser

I'm not sure what you guys are talking about. I just uploaded an image to show someone how to use uttorent and I got a direct link without any trickery

I just upped my image, clicked on the thumbnail size version under upload successful, and then clicked on the preview that showed which is http://img62.imageshack.us/i/unledfq.jpg/ and that is how I got the url for the full size picture above

yeah, just right click on the image as it is in http://img62.imageshack.us/f/unledfq.jpg, then hit view image. you'll have your direct link to the fullsize image.

i've been using it for ages and didn't even know this wasn't how people always got their direct links. meh. that imgur site looks better, think i might switch to that

 

i did notice the .gif thing earlier today. wondered why it was just a static image. surely that's not intentional? has to be a glitch or something

No, you don't need to sign up in order to get the direct link. If you're on firefox, just right-click and get picture info. If you're using Chrome, richt click and copy image url.

u should sign up antyway its cool u can see all the images u uplaoded and stuff

 

but i sorta switched to imgur now cuz there animated gifs thing (and sign up there to)
