Who on earth did the translation for the press release - I'm guessing Google Translate

Incredible roster on the compilation though ! (and that preview from Rafael Anton Irisarri & Goldmund is just beautiful)

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

agreed, great roster. i have to thank this thread for allowing me to once again see the name dustin o halloran -- a name that had escaped me since I lost his piano solos vol 1 when my last computer's hard drive crashed (two years ago now!)

will definitely be checking this out, thanks for the heads up troon

edit: gah, it's only available on CD... crossing my fingers for a flac release

hmm... seems a bit daft to buy a cd of an average/slow performance of Lent with pads added when you can just settle for the virtuosic ciccolini interpretation.

not sure satie would be into this really at all.

ftr: i hate shit like this for anything so don't listen to me. like that kraftwerk 8-bit cd made me want to drill holes in my head to make it stop.

Kind of agreed. Considering the huge amount of virtuous interpretations of this piece it feels like a slap in the face to just let it play in the background without any edits at all and just add some atmosphere. It's like playing aphex while having a shit and calling the recording of this a new record

interpretation of preexisting musicians works are always for better or worse but that is the opinion of the listener. all attempts are valid in their own right

True dat - I've known of Satie ever since, well, Short Circuit II (I didn't know it was him but I loved the track as a kid) but have never really checked out his work. Being a huge fan of a lot of the members of the compilation provides me with a perfect introduction to him in the same way that Rafael Anton Irisarri introduced me to Arvo Part with his insanely beautiful take of the track Fur Alina (which then influenced me to do the homage track Fur Alali in response).

Die hard fans of Satie will no doubt consider this compilation sacrilege, but for me it's just a collection of amazing artists giving their own personal take on a well respected composer.

I agree that the preview track posted didn't really alter much from [what I imagine] the original sounds like but there's tracks that really differ from the source material (unless, like with the case of Sylvain Chauveau remix, Satie was well known for his buffer-override glitch noise ....)

Hi there!

First post ever, I'm a bit impressed.

I totally agree : this compilation can suffer from numerous tracks that just sound like an more or less inspired interpretation of a score... but on the other hand, there are some real impressive covers / adaptations.

So yes, it can sound a bit disappointing given the line-up, but after all this was a really ambitious project, and imo it works pretty well as a whole.

PS : The guy who runs arbouse always uses google translation... I wonder how he managed to get in touch with all the artists there
