When Your Brain Post-Processes Noises

there were four sesame seeds on the desk. press press press press !

now they are stuck to my finger.

over to the trash. rub.

taptap tap tap!

the noise hangs in my head for a second, and as i play it back in my head, i count four individual taps as the seeds touch down.

it's a funny thing when you analyze a sound after it happens.

no, just paying close attention. will unfortunately be still stuck in this hotel room with no nugs tomorrow.

sound can come by you pretty quick, but the last couple seconds usually hang in your head for a moment. at least, they do in mine...

ya it's really true. I'm sure there is some kind of buffer there. :)

Does anyone else love it when sounds happen together and emphasize a moment. IE, listening to a track and having something fall and hit the floor in rhythm, or stuff like that? Even two non-music sounds happening at once coincidentally =D :nerd:

Oh yeah that's great !

I also try to walk in rhythm every time I listen to music in the streets.

Sometimes it's hard.

Whatever.

buffer, delay line, something like that.

i'll be coding or writing, and someone says something to me back in reality. i can usually finish the sentence/line/whatever, then rewind and play back what was said to me. but you only get a second or two of that sort of memory; anything longer than that gets lost.

also works with reading, driving, etc.

i heard the most amazing dubstep basses but about 8 octaves higher from birdsong when zig zagging home in the wee hours

ya this is really true. Birds have some crazy almost FM type sound generation happening. It's fucking incredible when you actually listen past the 'chirp chirp' cliche...

also true. Weird when you begin to see how the mind works. For me understanding how computers process info really opened up the world to totally new observations.

my dad does machine vision research, so i heard about this stuff all the time as a lad -- how does the brain process images? i got this instead of playing catch.

in college, i took a class that was essentially about modeling the brain's processes with a computer. that turned it from a minor interesting bit, into a minor obsession.

then drugs. too bad i can't really discuss my dxm/psychedelic research with him (not unless i want an earful, anyways).

One of the guys who works at the game/comic shop I go to had a slight Canadian accent, so for the rest of the night I was warping everyone else's speech to have a Canadian accent. I was amused.

in your mind?

or, you started speaking with one too, in an attempt to suck them into it?

i worked in israel for a month and i started to find myself adding some weird accents. it's natural to take cues from others and respond in kind...

this gets us into the epic lol that is taking a sip of water at the dinner table, then watching everyone else do it too.

In my mind, but I did start speaking with one as soon as I started talking with the guy. :whistling:
