hmm dunno whether its because they represent a horribly archaic and outdated institution to remind us of how little we have truly evolved, or the fact that the British king/royalty (at least in the states) is treated as some sort of glorious event because we saw Fergie on the Weightwatchers commercials, and that William is "hot".

It was weird explaining to the kids in my class about the media hype surrounding Chuck and Diana's wedding, since none of them were alive for it.
