new version of touchOSC out!

Recommended Posts

hey Kcinsu, have you played with Konkreet performer? I was just loaned an ipad for a short time and want to exploit the ish out of it while it's in my hands. For straight forward understandable visual GUI controls for your computer knobs, TouchOSC seems better, but isn't Touchosc required to run any of these other programs too? Im a little confused on how to get what Mcbpete shows in those pictures, when i run touchosc its literally just a dialog box asking me to input an IP address and setup network, which i have gotten to work with Konkreet performer.

I'm guessing the layout is a touch different as I'm running the Android version. Maybe once you've set up the host IP and incoming and outgoing port you just press ok then go under 'layout' and choose one of the preset layouts, then press Done. I followed this guide - http://hexler.net/docs/touchosc-getting-started-osc and got it working pretty much instantly with Pure Data (I didn't have any other compatible OSC hosts to test it on so just downloaded PD to try it out with)

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

No, I haven't heard of Konkreet performer. I'll check that out...

TouchOSC just put up a complete guide on how to set up your system here.

For using OSC, you need to use a program like puredata to receive the OSC messages. If you're just looking to dive in, I'd try the core MIDI first. Here is the setup instructions; link. I haven't tried the MIDI yet myself, but perhaps if I have time tonight.

But if you just want to see a screen for examples... you have to go to the layouts section, and select one of those then it'll take you back to the main screen. hit "done" in the top right hand corner to load it.

also, to edit the templates, you can only do that on the computer. the editor program is available on the touchOSC page.

another alternative is "Midi Touch". Similar, all MIDI, but a little less cool looking. It does have tabbed containers though, which is nice.

midi touch

and here is a great one, for total ableton live control : touchable. this one is what I usually use when just working in ableton. more than my apc40 actually... although I do like tactile buttons in certain situations.

touchOSC would be something I would use for a gig, after really refining how i interact with a set... then i would set up a custom interface that had exactly, and only what I needed.

oh shit... new version of touchable with a fancy xy thingy... gotta dl that one too!

this is fucking great. i've been playing non-stop with this building templates for ableton and stuff. i've always loved touchOSC and have had it working in the past but the inconvenience of OSC has always prevented me from getting much further than "oooh flashy lights". this is a dream come true now though. for anyone that's interested i'm thinking of making a quick video tutorial on how to set this up. i'll keep you all posted.

is there any way to use this loose from a computer? THAT would be sweet to control hardware from the iPad... I do recall seeing a midi interface or it somewhere....

Yes, it can be connected to a midi interface (I think there is a list of supported interfaces somewhere on the site)

In the future, when I actually have time, I'd love to put together a set with just my nord modular g2s, using their sequencers, all controlled by touchosc!
