Guest A/D
OK so i'm super excited about Intel's new i series processors. New laptop is on the horizon etc. (Unless I make myself wait for Ivy Bridge 20% improvement in speed OMG ) And then I find this little gem Quote The processors include a "service" called Intel Insider, which the company claims is "an extra layer of content protection",[19] and despite claims, is a form of Digital rights management (a technology that inhibits uses of digital content not desired or intended by the content provider). In addition, Sandy Bridge processors have security features that include the ability to remotely disable a PC or erase information from hard drives. This can be useful in the case of a lost or stolen PC. The commands can be received through 3G signals, ethernet, or internet connections. AES encryption acceleration will be available, which can be useful for video conferencing and VoIP applications.[20] WTF???? DRM at the processor level? I am not excited about having this explained to me . . Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/65798-intel-drm/ Share on other sites
Guest A/D
I LMTGTFY'd myself and found this Quote The technology known as Intel Insider does one thing and one thing only. It protects movies delivered from service providers that are specifically using Intel Insider to protect their content. It has to be enabled on the service provider side. Consumers with Intel Insider enabled PCs will have access to content in higher resolution (1080P) and potentially earlier release. worrisome to me without knowing a lot more about how it works. There's no problem with that kind of thing of course. Digital content has to be made with the sandy bridge DRM taken into account before hand, I would assume. I don't see this happening any time soon because most people are not using that chipset, still too early.
