best VST/AU drum machine

hello

what's the best VST/AU drum machine to use within Logic? i'm looking for an empty one, not Ultrabeat, not D16 stuff. not a sampler. an empty drum machine with a built it pattern sequencer like the reason Redrum, that lets me load any audio sample.

AudioRealism ADM can load samples, had it set up a while ago all folders neatly sorted etc.. it's not a big feature, but it works pretty well. really nice.

Ehhh, I mean I get where ya'lls is coming from but I think it's just a really unnecessarily strange/distorted mentality. I don't know if yall are using DAWs with really shitty midi editing or what but I don't see 16 step sequencer being more efficient or creatively inspiring.

I love being able to do midi time stretching on my drums, try out 128th notes on hi hats. I have only been using Reaper and mostly just punch in percussion and melodies with midi controllers but the midi editing/sequencing/programming etc. in Reaper is so fast, easy & lets you do some crazy shit that I cannot relate to why someone would want to use a 16 step DM sequencer at all.

Just put your DAW on a loop, set your grid to quarter notes/8th notes/16 notes and go for shit, that's no more complex than a 16 step and you can still do massively more interesting stuff with it when you want to get kurazy.

all drum machines I have used with built in sequencers have at least 64 steps and 4 pattern banks effectively giving you at least 256 steps to play with.

my main confusion is not necessarily just about limited sequencer steps but that it seems completely inferior compared to a DAW for then editing your simple beat to have more life, give it humanistic velocity/time variations, a late bass drum here/there, midi time stretch experiments, blending different patterns etc. etc. etc.

Different strokes for different folks. I just don't really get the benefit(s?) at all

I can't imagine programming drum machines outside of a tracker, but then that's all I've been used to for the last 20 years.

my favorite sampler/drum machine combo is Limelite, a patch for Reaktor

i've been using ultrabeat, and really like the combo of synth and sampling. Can get some really cool sounds when you modulate the sample w/ fm from the synth section.
