Blifil

this is just awesome. the change to triplets is so fluid that i can't pinpoint when it actually changes feel.

a great example on how electronics create new ideas that are clean, extremely difficult/complex, and probably just fall flat on acoustic instruments.

while i don't find the song particularly moving, i think it's an incredible display of the precise, technical and barrage-of-percussion ae that i'd like to hear moar of. can you imagine what the peel sessions 2 era tracks that didn't make it sounded like? each of those tracks (aside from gelk and gaekwad, which i see as pretty similar) are wildly different in dynamic and feel.

you have heard the live version with Microphone Fiend mixed into that second half, haven't you? i almost can't listen to the studio version, i'm spoiled by the soundboard recording like that.

wat show, i may have it and heard it once or twice, but if it aint glasgow/hemsby/2008toronto i haven't listened much

it's from the 10-10-1999, Coachella set. soundboard. the set is well worth searching out. the 'untitled' tracks on there are awesome...track 5 is one of my absolute favorite AE tracks ever, never heard it on another set though. also has ISS:SA and all (i think?) of the second peel session tracks. just a damned good mix pretty much for something autechre yet a bit different, though it's obviously not live in the sense of the quaristice tour, you should find it.

if you can't let me know, dude.

ah yes i do have that show. i listened to the live blifil with the rappers a rappin and that's pretty swell.

but that 3min transition is just.... i know i want to try and make a song with that general idea but this type of transition is impossible for me to feel, and you can't play anything you can't feel.

one of my favorite things about autechre music is how well they can shift the focal point of a beat, and then you realize the room is flipped over and the floor became the ceiling, because all of a sudden there's a new part of the rhythm being accentuated, some triplets or oddly shuffled timepoints you might not have noticed before. the change in blifil is great, cipater does something similar too.

it's right after the 3:00 mark, which coincidentally this thread is about, that he begins to whisper...

"blifil.. blifil my nibble, bloofmaker"

and around the 4:00 mark he tries to make a serious point three times in a row before the drums come back to drown him
