Boxcutter - The Dissolve

Wow, I just had my head ripped off by this album. It almost completely passed me by. I liked some of Boxcutter's old stuff and just randomly decided to check out what he has been up to lately. Fucking hell, why isn't this guy getting more attention?

The press seems to want to call Boxcutter a dubstep producer, but this album doesn't really have any more in common with dubstep than it does with chillwave or techno. The only common threads on the album are the 2-step beats, and the deep sub-bass. Everything else is a glorious psychedelic, mind-warping mashup. The production is super slick, yet so raw at the same time. There are so many detials going on at once, I don't know how he keeps it all together. It's been a while since I've heard an album that surprised me so many times. It puts me int he same headspace as flying lotus's cosmogramma, but it's a much easier album to listen to. Amazing stuff.
