o00o
I have this too. People say you should put them in the oven to make this go away. YEK
i've heard that too. i wouldn't try that though, too risky i think it's not a horrible warp but it's annoying cause it's new Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide YEK's signature Hide all signatures Reveal hidden contents !:/music Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/66273-warped-vinyl/#findComment-1585216 Share on other sites
chassis
If you store them flat thats what happens right? You're supposed to store them on their side. Guest uptown devil
the guy at the record player store told me this: 1. get two plates of glass slightly bigger than a record 2. clean both plates thoroughly, as well as the record itself (otherwise dirt and shit will bake in and be there forever) 3. put record between plates of glass 4. heat oven up to 125 degrees f 5. turn off the oven and put record/glass sandwich in for about 2 hours 6. take out the now-hopefully flat record and let it cool i haven't tried it yet, but the record player store guy told me he's done it dozens of times without a hitch. YEK
actually i have a record that is far gone. so warped it's unplayable... i'd be willing to try some flattening technique on it, as long as it doesn't require an oven ... maybe stacking encyclopedias on it? In western WA in the US, which is right below BC, it pretty much never goes above 75 degrees, so I doubt he'll have a whole lot of luck with that method. I don't think o00o was being literal, it doesn't need to be 125 degrees to warp vinyl. In the northeast US it never gets above 110 at the absolute maximum and rarely gets to 100 even at the absolute height to summer, yet I've had plenty of vinyl that has warped when not stored properly or left in the sun (the black absorbs heat instead of reflecting it). Also even if it's only 70 out, if left in a car temperatures can get much much higher which is why keeping vinyl in a car on a sunny day is a surefire way to warp a record. The 125 degrees is just a number that has been proven time and again by people who go through this process to make vinyl soft without completely melting it in the oven, chances are it would work at a lower temperature but it would take much, much longer to achieve the desired results. Guest yikes
using the above method gives you a 50/50 crapshoot that you will ruin your lp go here if you really want the lp flattened professionally http://www.recordclean.com.au/4/22140/24992.html Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/66273-warped-vinyl/#findComment-1585426 Share on other sites
Mellow U
The only record I own that is warped to the point of it messing with the playback is the first of the two LPs in my Amber 2xLP. Not sure I'd stick that in the oven. If I ever found a place that could guarantee it would work and be fixed though, I'd be interested. Guest Bubz
i've had a few that are slightly warped (needle moves up and down about 1/2 centimeter or less). none of them are to the point that it makes any difference (i think) and yes i think it is because i used to store records flat ( self). i keep my apartment cold (for other reasons) so i'm lucky my records were kept chilled. i'm very careful with how i treat my records now but i wasn't always like that. damn i wish someone told me how to treat records a long time ago. good thing most of my records that've been through maltreatment are dnb/jungle records that i can find on the web for very cheap. thanks yikes for the link. definitely will use if any of my gems are too warped. Guest Bubz
does anyone know if a minor warp affects the sound of the record at all? cuz quite a few of my records have a very small warp, but i haven't really noticed a difference.
