Hmm, without going back and revisiting a lot of my hip-hop collection I might have to go with this one off the top of my head... say what you will about his material for the last few albums (I'd probably agree with you, hes gotten soft), but this song spits fire

Old school, but I still love it today as much as I did when it was released. There are of course better tracks but nostalgia I'm afraid has something to say here.

the versatility on this track is insane. the trade-offs are effortless and all four of them fucking kill it. this is the way it was meant to be.

man, ive thought about this for a long long time, and as much as i want it to be a wu-tang song, wu tang is far inferior on a singular level to the following two..i cannot choose between the two

Ultramagnetic MC's-Ego Trippin

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAlsaFKtHuU

simple classic hiphop beat, melodic hit that anyone and everyone that knows hiphop knows this sample is shit hot and should be integrated into everything ever made in the history of anything. oh yeah, and the rappers are some of the best of all time.

and

Gang Starr-You Know My Steez

Its Premier, so what can I say....this is far and away my fav Premier beat...and Guru is just solid...the simplicity of his rhymes and his voice just hit it home where many others would sound like idiots. Whereas when I wanna rock Ill jam out to Ultramagnetics....this track is more about contemplating the ability of individuals to transcend the "party" or "gangsta" scene.
