Vocalcity is by far his best effort under his Luomo pseudonym, and among all his other projects it's right up there among the best, otherwise not really a fan of his Luomo stuff. Give me more V.Delay, Uusitalo and Sistol,plz.

Multi-faceted Finnish artist Sasu Ripatti will release a new album as Luomo this September on Moodmusic.

 

Ripatti's career has revolved around a cluster of different names and projects. Each has its own distinct style, but most lean toward the experimental side of things, from the lurching sound experiments of Vladislav Delay to the stark techno of his recently revived Sistol alias. Luomo has always been his most pop-friendly guise, characterized by house rhythms, warm melodies and a modern disco feel. A raft of vocalists have appeared on Luomo tracks before, including Cassy, Robert Owens and Ripatti's girlfriend Antye Greie, or AGF. On PLUS, he enlists one hitherto unknown act for vocal duties: Chicago Boys, who appear to be two genuinely Chicago-based artists named Kyle Schneider and Justin Moskovitz. You can hear three tracks from the album in their entirety right now on Luomo's official website.

I was listening to some tracks from Vocalcity yesterday. This album is still one of my favorites and I will always remember Luomo pretty much for that album.

I am obviously one of the biggest Ripatti fans in WATMM but the guy has been very hit or miss in the last few years, imo. I still have to listen to the Vladislav Delay Quartet album, though.

vocalcity and some of the stuff just after were peak of this alias for me. if you take from there back to the beginnning you find his best period, imo, after that i've had a hard time getting into any of it, sadly. the first stuff is brilliant, though.

The tracks sound like they are outtakes from the latest Sistol with added vocals. Better than the previous Luomo. Still more interested in the V.Delay album on the way later this year.

well, there was really stupid review of VDQ on the Wire which i thought was embarrasing for the magazine, pure ignorance and misunderstanding.

but i try to stay away from it all and just focus on doing what i think i should do.

Oh I have never seen Sasu angry in an interview before I wonder what The Wire said about the album?

This guy is a legend you don't say bad things about him, ever. If only out of respect for his consistent search for new languages and innovation only matched by the likes of Autechre. I think his best stuff is pitch perfect in terms of execution, vision and tastefulness and even if I don't understand Tumma / VDQ, he has a pass for life after making Vocalcity (Favorite Album of All Time) and Multila. And Uusitalo. And most Vladislav Delay. And Sistol. And Moritz Von Oswald Trio. And..

I love how hard this new album sounds, looks like the cutup vocals and feminine Paper Tigers style are gone forever but this Sistol based Luomo is fucking awesome. The chorus on the second song seems dedicated to jaded Vocalcity fans ha!

I don't really feel this album based on one listen but "Spy" is quite something.

The first time I fell asleep and then got a headache, the two final songs woke me up - I was just going to post it here

Why am I the only one listening to this album? There is a little-freakout-did-he-mess-did-he-not-full-body-orgasm-mindfuck in the beginning of Good Stuff that is so cool / The Present Lover like, I have been humming that song nonstop for days, what about the instant classic Chelonis R Jones track?
