QY70

I know a few of you have dabbled with the QY series, so thought I'd pin this up here. the yahoo qy70/100 group is kinda dead.

I'm trying to play a loop in pattern mode, but whenever i go to sequence in a phrase, the microkeyboard doesn't respond. same when i use an external source. i can enter notes fine in song mode, but whenever it loops a main a/b there's always a gap when jumping back to the first measure. So im hoping I can figure out this pattern mode.

I know what I'm trying to do is probably super simple, so any help is much appreciated, even if it is berating

you need to put it in pattern mode for looping.

Is the QY70 any good? Be fun to get one. What sort of batteries does it take?

yeah, it's alright - i've owned both the QY-70 and QY-10 sequencers. i only ever used them in pattern mode and mainly just for little loops i'd key in on the fly, quantize and send out to my synths. eventually sold them as i got fed up with digging through lots of menus and fiddly buttons and had got into numerology as my main sequencing tool. but overall they're a cheap and very powerful (if you can be bothered to delve into it) hardware MIDI sequencer that's readily available and good for space conscious set-ups so would be a useful addition for many people.

edit: you can also get a standard yamaha PSU for £10 or less that will negate the need for batteries.

i'm not quite sure i understand this... is it two seperate things? 1. not being able to use the keyboard in pattern mode 2. not looping properly

 

are your main a/b patterns maybe 5 bars or something? i've never had this problem... sounds like maybe its a weird setting you're in or something? you could factory restart it and see if that fixes it.

thanks for the reply, it's one issue: trouble entering notes in pattern mode. I know the microkeyboard works as i can step sequence just fine in song mode, but it doesn't respond in pattern mode when I try to edit a phrase

could be i don't know what im doing in pattern mode.. you edit phrases, say i go to the "Bass phrase" and go into step sequencer, looks the same as in song mode, but when i scroll down to the "notes" section, no response, anger, tears

am i doing this right? the manual tells me it should work

About to get one of these pretty cheap. Kinda excited. :) I've been using numerology mostly, but the crap song mode there makes composing with it a royal pain in the ass. :p I'm hoping for that to get fixed in v4. Until then I look forward to some all hardware tracks! I'm also looking forward to being forced into playing in patterns instead of always step sequencing or mouse clicking.

are there any good resources for getting started with it?
