Gagaku appreciation thread

to be honest i've never really gotten into any gagaku but i'm quite willing to have my mind changed, i'm a huge fan of traditional japanese music especially nagauta (kabuki theatre music) and noh threatre recordings. any specific albums you think i should get?

one interesting about that specific bit of music in the youtbe is that it almost sounds to me like some sort of dessicated bagpipe music or something? something with the drones and the sliding up to the notes

 

Yeah I'm not sure what that instrument is, very striking sound. Also love the Sho, the thing providing the harmonic backdrop.
