I need to get some good folk.

Long story short, my girlfriend got an hour long radio show at her college. Unfortunately, she just got notification today that she got the show, and it starts tomorrow. She's got a pretty healthy library, but it's diverse, and her show is primarily about folk music. She's got/we've got enough to cobble together an hour or two and not have repeat artists, etc, but she wants to get more so she has a bit of a safety net. It'll help a lot with her nerves if I can give her some more suggestions soon.

So, with that said, can you WATMMers give me some suggestions for good folk songs/artists, or any other cutesy acoustic/lofi music?

these guys influenced a lot of great music from the stones to boards of canada. this particular album is exceptional. psychedelic folk, totally hippy.

one more fahey. fuck, i could listen to fahey forever.

i particularly love this because of the closeups on the fretboard.

master of the alternate tuning, along with nick and in a different context jimmy page.

Guest tht tne

there is a gem from carolyn hester's debut album called "when jesus lived in galilee," album features bob dylan's recording debut (playing harmonica)

but i don't really like carolyn hester's vocals on it; i just remember my dad and his mother used to sing this at christmas when we would get together

there is a cool song on there called "yarrow," though.. i also remember mom playing peter paul & mary records before i went to school, getcha some

Not everything the Mountain Goats do can be classified as folk - but they do do some. And damn is it ever good.

Kaini beat me to it with Gordon Lightfoot, but Daniel Lanois offers some good Canadian folk

I would post video of King Creosote and Jon Hopkins album "Diamond Mine" but WMG is a bunch of cunts and have blocked it. Anyhow - I guess you could call it ambient folk - but guaranteed you will love the shit out of it.

If she's already versed, she probably knows all about Bonnie "Prince" Billy and Iron & Wine, but I'll just throw em out as a reminder :)

백호야~~~항상에 사랑할거예요.나의 아들.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

She told me to thank all of you, and that she will be playing some of the songs posted here.

You'll be able to listen to her show streaming at http://www.wiux.org/radio/ at 4:00 pm eastern us (9:00 pm GMT) every Monday.

In a couple months, I'll be a guest co-host on the show once or twice as well.

And of course, more suggestions are still welcome.

If she is worried about filling time this will be perfect, 10 minutes of sublime folk goodness.

"They're about guns, lasers, robots with laser guns in space. Monsters from the future. Explosions. Sylvester Stallone doing a backflip on top of a spike while Robocop carries a ghost up a mountain. Bombs and swords and that... IDM is awesome."
