I have this friend who has a uncanny ability to transcribe music especially guitar music.If i want something that lacks a good tab on the net,the most recent being when the sun hits and solvalaki space station by slowdive, not only will he tab the guitar part i wanted but he will do the entire band for the entire song working out all required effects and settings.in like an hour.hes done entire albums for semi unknown bands just because he wanted to play along.The tabs he submits for UG(normally only for the rare songs that are lacking good tabs) are instantly praised and rated 5 stars.

My question is with this ability(trust me its more like a freaking superpower)do you think he could setup a website or something and give guitarists 99.9/100percent accurate tabs of any guitar music they wanted(u.g tabs lets me down 9 times out of 10)he could potentionally make any money?

TL;DR

Can someone who is beyond good at transcribing guitar music make money from it?

this world requires money to eat and things and such

@ieafs yeah it does seem like alot of people are doing this type of thing and some for free, just wanted to see if my friend could get a break doing something he liked and was good at instead of working at a diary lol.

Have you never seen songbooks in music shops? im assuming the person who makes those gets paid COULD BE WRONG THO

im assuming those people probably pay royalties considering they're publishing books of other people's songs

well what i was going to say has already been said but let me just add: probably around 75% of the guitar tabs i've come across on websites have been wildly inaccurate. at least for stuff like genesis (for example), i dunno how people manage to come up with tabs that sound so different to what's actually being played in the recording. and then have those tabs be widely distributed throughout so many different sites!

so good luck to your friend if he is actually accurate!
