Now, this covers more than one certain genre and style of music but I guess it's better that way since multiple threads are avoided and people can merely suggest and maybe find things to like based into the following criteria.

I am looking for wonderful, nostalgic and usually melancholic instrumental accordion, harpsichord or maybe even organ and harmonica music. I don't mind if it is electronically processed or not as long as it fits those criteria.

I guess there is great stuff to be found in classical pieces too but some related classical pieces I've listened like that, go on for 10 minutes or more with no clear THEMES and memorable melodies to grab you. I'm looking for memorable stuff spinning in your head while you go to bed or walk into the street if that makes any sense. Another clue might be to think of great old skool melancholic RPG music in that vein (Nobuo Uematsu is the man!)

Some examples pretty close in what I've got in mind:

This charming piece by Mihaly Vig for Bela Tarr's Satantango:

This piece is connected with the old skool RPGesque music description I gave earlier. The whole album is very good and fits my description, unfortunately I am not aware of any other similar Yokota releases. Everything else I've listened by him is either ambient (mostly good but I prefer other artists and not on topic) and house (meh).

This is one of my fave Brian Eno tracks and although it doesn't use really use an accordion it has a timbre close to it:

Now I am familiar with the so called laptop folk scene and Colleen has some moments kinda close to what I describe (and she is great in general) so there might be more stuff in that genre to be found. Fennesz and Max Richter are different.

As I mentioned before I also got a thing for harpsichords but I haven't really found anything that doesn't fit into a more formulaic classical generic vibe. Again, I want memorable themes you can get hooked into.

Igorrr is good imo. Breakbeats are a bonus, screams not really:

Finally, and probably not really connected with the previous examples sound-wise but more on a nostalgic-retro music level, I always got the idea I will really appreciate baroque/cabaret music but I dont know exactly what to look for.

I get the feeling this IAMX song merely rips off like a thousand baroque music pieces in the same style so since I really like it I can use it as an example for more stuff like that. I don't care if its instrumental or not, old or new as long as it's great and in the same genre.

Let the recommendations begin. Thanks alot!

Bach - Prelude & Fugue in C Minor (BWV 549)

Especially the fugue (about 2 minutes in)

Maybe you prefer this version, were the fugue sounds a bit less 'deep'

Don't know if you will find it memorable, but that tune once haunted my head for weeks.

Can't find any of it on youtube, but look for Mount A by Lost In Hildurness/hHildur Gudnadóttir. Particularly the track "Self". Great dulcimer tunezzz.

also, one of my favorite songs & youtube videos of all time:

through the years, a man peoples a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, tools, stars, horses and people. shortly before his death, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the image of his own face.

sorry for obvious posts, but

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c08rjq4rkVE (chord organ)

+ 100 other bogdan tracks that use chord organ

that said, the chord organ and accordion are two of my very favorite instruments of all time.

triachus > Nice, I actually prefer the first interpretation. It's somewhat less pompous.

thanks robert moses > Mount A sounds quite charming, thanks.

ganus > Obvious indeed but great nonetheless. Apart Aphex, I really like Bogdan's music. Myloveilove in particularly, I remember that cd had cost me quite some when I ordered some years ago.

This isn't exactly what you're after, but I listened to it this morning so I feel compelled to post it.

Loads of electric organ, electric harpsichord, rocksichord (whatever the hell that is)... but it's not melancholic, it's utterly joyous and one of my favourite records EVER.

Yeah man, I am familiar with "A Rainbow in Curved Air", it is a fine trippy ride of a record. Good stuff. I also got some PCO somewhere but prolly not this one, sounds good. I like Harmonium timbre too.

It's interesting how stylophones can have a similar reed timbre at times, I love this:

This whole album is basically just accordion and breaks.

This is very nice indeed, thanks!
