Buy expensive vinyl but never play it

I am realizing lately the more I spend on a vinyl record the less I want to play it as I fear it does loose value by doing that. I still listen to the flacs instead. Do you have similar behaviors?

I plan to make flac rips of my rare vinyl exclusives and sell 'em off for just that reason; I can't seem to enjoy listening to them for fear of fucking them up!

not to say I don't play records in general, but I definitely haven't listened to my vinyl nearly as often as I used to, fucking portable turntable being my only playback option. but even with more valuable records, I like to play them at least once before I forget about them for a few weeks.

They'll probably get more damage if you dont play them. Storage and dust are far more likely to ruin them.

Plus the fact that they're pieces of plastic, get a grip!

I don't like to buy REALLY expensive records for this reason: I know I would be inclined to try to preserve it and therefore lessen the experience of having a piece of music.

Understandable, however I prefer to think about the cost relating more to the music itself than the physicality and value of it. I.e. I wouldn't just pay $70 for Konigsforst by Gas to have it sit all pretty on my shelf. There's some vinyl-exclusive music on it, and beyond that it's just one of the best albums to hear on vinyl anyway...

For a record I've paid a fair whack for, I'd feel cheated if I didn't play it. Why else would I bother buying it. I've got a few which have ripples or torn sleeves coming from taking out and playing. Gives them character and makes them mean even more to you than keeping them shrinkwrapped in a temperature controlled enviroment for it's life.

:doge: Jet fuel can't melt dank memes :doge:

Yeah, regardless of the amount paid for a record, it gets chucked on the turntable immediately,

defeats the purpose for me entirely not to hear it. Everytime I see one of those expensive carded Starwars figures,

I want to burst it open and have a battle.

the most i ever paid for a single album (ie. not counting warp20 box) was $60 for amber, and i've probably played that more than any of my other records!

.. though sometimes i buy something and then don't listen to it for a while, i have a pile of unplayed stuff that i am slowly getting through.
