Six-core AMD Phenom™ II X6 1035T processor ??

Anyone know what a PC with a Six-core processor is capable of? I've come across a QUAD core before and now see PC world selling a six core. Thougths?

How do you mean exactly ? More cores = greater distribution of cpu tasks = Does more at the same time

The AMD 6-core chips are definitely very powerful, but from the benchmarks I've seen the i5/i7 quads have a big edge if you're working at very low latency, 64 samples or less.

Oh right so what you recommend guys 'cause I'm gonna be getting a pc in the next month or two. Be nice to get something that runs Kontakt 4 with plenty of ease.

Ive never found mine to struggle.

If it's large sample playback you're wanting then lots of RAM and a quick hard disk would be the two most important factors ....

Are there any apps that take full advantage of the extra cores. I know there are those that can use two, but six? Sounds like a waste of money for a marginal advantage.

Buzz supports multiple cores IIRC, I think it uses one for graphics and the rest of the sound processing is then split pretty much evenly between the other cores.

Sandy Bridge.. i5-2500K or i7-2600K

SSD drive for libraries would help too.

I suppose getting a 6 core can't be bad though as in the future software will surely take advantage of the hardware.

I'm holding out till they come out. 8 Cores @ 4.2 Ghz + Baby. I over clock that shit.

Is it theoretically possible to run audio interfaces at less than 32 samples. If it is, what kind of processor would be rekwired?

I'm guessing 15-20 years for the consumer market, but yeah, I'm excited for the growth of multicore processors, I dream of a day where computers will have so many cores that the processing power could be distributed just by synths and effects, I don't often reach 100% at 1.6GHz dual core but there are times when I'm doing a final master and it really sucks having to render a small part a time to hear what it sounds like after all the final EQs/mastering plugins are running...

i so desperately wish i had the money to build a Core i7 Extreme 990X system, with 24GB RAM (triple channel), a GTX 590 graphics card, and a case to put it all in.

i would've been able to if i had gotten that fucking job :(

the additional cores confuse the operating system, making these newer chips unstable. do not buy a computer with six cores. would you buy a car with six wheels?

With its latest generation of client processors just a stone's throw away (into the mist, since there's still uncertainity surrounding the actual launch dates), AMD is preparing to retire its current front-line client processors, the six-core Phenom II X6. A company slide talking about "desktop processor longetivity" shows all current Phenom II X6 models, including 1100T Black Edition, 1090T Black Edition, 1075T, and 1065T, are scheduled for "end of life" (EOL) in Q4 2011, at the very latest by December. When a product reaches EOL, the company stops taking orders from distributors for it, clears outstanding orders, and stops its production. The company will continue to honor any warranty claims in accordance with its warranty terms and conditions.

yeah but he's talking about getting a computer prebuilt from PC World, where they have "top of the line" computers that are, at best, 2 or 3 years behind the actual current top of the line.

yeah I highly doubt that.

If you don't feel the need to cough up for a 2600K build now, save some dough and see what Ivy Bridge has to offer in 2012. There's enough time between now and the launch for you to learn about computers and how to lego one together. It'll probably be more than £600 but if you build it right it'll last you five or more years.
