Apple hope to block video recordings at gigs

This seems very "1984" to me. Your not allowed to film with your iphones at gigs, so we will send out a signal to block your equipment.

So why the fuck do you put high quality video cameras on your equipment if you do not want people to use them?

It does piss me off though when half the crowd at the gig are constantly taking photos / videos rather than enjoying the moment. But then if youve paid the (usually excessive) ticket prices to get in, within reason you should be allowed to act how you please...

Apple pulls dick move - world in shock. :wtf:

Aren't they blocking porn sites on their phones already? I can't believe the amount of ridiculous moves they can get away with, they're pretty much the worst, they release one piece of shit after the other and charge about four times as much for it as would be justified, and yet so many people seem to be experiencing some kind of psychosexual attraction to them.

No, they aren't blocking porn sites. Thanks, Terpentintollfud.

This is a patent. Which basically just means it's a patent troll. It's not been implemented in anything, and if anyone wants to implement it, they have to pay Apple. That's how this works.

This does not mean that Apple is actively "developing this technology," per the article. Apple tends to file a shit-ton of patents that it never touches. Because this is how it works.

If Apple does develop this technology, then bitch about it all you want. But so far, Apple hasn't done shit, aside from set themselves up to take a cut from whatever dipshit does implement it.

I just recall them rejecting a snarky religious app years ago. They flat out rejected something that merely cropped Jesus' face onto a persons face, but before that approved an app that simulated the act of shaking a baby (which they also pulled eventually). Yep. It was also called "Me So Holy" which pwns just about every chillwave pun and spoonerism I can think of.

no. by your same argument I should have the right to bring an iphone into a court proceeding, or into any private establishment and record images and audio. Of course this is silly, as the rules at each private establishment for video and audio recording come take precedence over your "right" to record, no matter the device used. Apple is just making money at both ends... they are not making the rules.

If you think that's bad, get this - you can't disable the shutter sound on the Blackberry camera. How am I supposed to photograph my own shit in the office toilets without everyone thinking I'm some kind of freak?

lolBlackberry

This only makes sense in the context of Apple negotiating contracts with the music industry. IMO, it's obvious that at this point the big labels which are looking to regain control over the digital market, try to do so via Apple - as well as other digital selling points. One of the discussion-points would, or will be gigs and the revenue involved for the industry. I can imagine Apple being confronted with big shot labels which try pulling crap like this into contracts with Apple.

But, like baph has already pointed out: there's no real reason - yet- to draw a Hitler mustache on the Apple logo. (It'd still be fun though!)

Seems like governments and corporations might think this is a good invention around protest-season, eh?

this is actually my big concern with this. we have seen how social media via phones can aid a revolution... makes it harder to show brutality when no ones phone is allowing them to take pictures and tweet it, exposing an event in near real time. sure, you can use a plain old camera, but then you have to upload it somewhere, and if you're being rounded up by police, you won't have that camera long enough to do it.
