According to NYDailyNews.com, Kim Crawford hit Jamar Johnson 'harder than she'd ever hit him' and initially lied to prosecutors about the circumstance of her son's death.

The woman, Kim Crawford, 21, was charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter two days after officers were called to her apartment in the Edenwald neighborhood and discovered that the boy, Jamar Johnson, was unconscious and not breathing, according to the police.

 

Ms. Crawford and her children - she also has a daughter, a neighbor says - moved into a subsidized apartment on East 227th Street on June 10, a neighbor said.

 

The police said the boy had been struck several times in the torso, and the city medical examiner's office said an autopsy had revealed internal abdominal injuries.

 

The police said that from 2006 to 2010, officers were summoned on at least nine occasions to sort out domestic disturbances involving Ms. Crawford and Jamar's father, who was not implicated in the boy's death.

 

Separately, Ms. Crawford has also had at least two previous arrests, one for assault and another for drug possession. The disposition of those cases was not immediately known.

I don't understand how the hell this woman was able to keep her kid? I'm not a huge fan of separating kids from parents, but seriously - nine occasions of domestic violence, two arrests - one for drug possession...this is not an environment fit for raising a child.

Agreed. The nine domestic violence cases a lone should have gotten her kids taken away... and if the other kid isn't removed from the home, then that's just really fucked.

When I was living in NYC, our neighbor used to beat her grandkids evey day (one of the parents was dead, the other was in jail).

This mean old grandma was something else. Her voice sounded like a devil-man and she literally couldn't talk without yelling. Lucky for us, the walls we thinner than any apartment I had ever lived in, so we could hear everything. She'd call the kids (17 yr old girl, 13 yr old girl and 10 yr old boy) things like "devil", "whore" and "slut".

Then she would either lock them outside at night and let them piss and shit in the hallway of our building rather than letting them in. Otherwise, she'd turn up the radio to drown out the screams while she severely beat the kids.

We called the NYPD weekly on them and, no shit, the cops would come and lecture us for not minding our business and for giving troubles to an old woman with a hard enough time.

The oldest girl would be locked out every other night and would litterally knock on the door to the apartment until her knuckles bled. We'd sometimes find her lying next to the door asleep (with piss or shit around) the corner. She was actually a smart, pretty girl too.

It was very sad.
