I'm going to be honest here. I've heard your music on here and growing up in the 80's myself and also being a cautious fan of that kind of nostalgia now, I have to say I approached the buzz around your material with some apprehension, mainly because I knew not to expect anything that was proclaiming to be a new style and was more of a tribute. For that reason, I was expecting it to be pretty bandwagonesque but in truth, I've warmed to it a bit more. I think the passion you have for the era isn't just a passing fad, you're clearly skilled in what you're emulating and although it's still not music I'd listen to constantly, it's still very impressively executed. So many indie throw back 80's movies are being made now that I can imagine film directors that would love to use massively famous tracks in their films (ala John Hughes), but can't afford the rights who would probably go ape for your stuff!

thanks man, and you're right, i've been making 80's music on and off for the past 10 years or so. one of my tracks was supposed to be featured in some indie flick last year actually, but it's not out yet so i suppose they ran out of money or something, but yeah, i should look into it some more.

I actually do listen quite often. As for movies... Yes. It has repeatable value and taps into the "third eye's visuals". I always come back to realize the quality in melody comes from when you don't write "conclusive" notes till the end. I often turn the sound off of twisternederland7 (win/luck) videos on Youtube or movies and use the roootx youtube playlist in the background as a backtrack.

This is great stuff. I love this whole reinvention of the 80s that's going on right now. Do mind if I ask how you get that great gated reverb sound on the toms? I've been trying to get that huge 80s gated reverb sound and it just never sounds quite right. Also, are you using hardware or softsynths?

he uses only software

i don't use any hardware, it's all renoise and vsts. the reverbs and everything else are all (well, ~90% of it) made with the integrated dsp effects in renoise. in other words, nothing too fancy.
