jules
Quote On September 6, Nonesuch will release WTC 9/11, a new album from experimental composer Steve Reich. The album's title track was commissioned for and recorded by avant-classical outfit Kronos Quartet; as its title suggests, the piece is a reflection on the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City ten years on. In addition, the album will include Reich's 2009 piece Mallet Quartet performed by So Percussion, as well as Reich's 2002 composition Dance Patterns, performed by members of Steve Reich and Musicians. In a statement, Reich outlined his own connection to the 9/11 tragedy: "On 9/11 we were in Vermont, but our son, granddaughter, and daughter-in-law were all in our apartment. Our phone connection stayed open for six hours and our next-door neighbors were finally able to drive north out of the city with their family and ours. For us, 9/11 was not a media event." Watch an excerpt of Mallet Quartet being performed in 2009 by So Percussion.
