Transferring Ableton sets from one computer to another.

I recently got a new laptop, a Macbook Pro, and of course I wish to transfer some of my Ableton Live sets from my old Windows laptop to the new Mac. I've looked around on various forums and figured out that you can save your set as a self-contained file, which would contain all of your MIDI-data and samples into a folder, which can then be transferred around as desired.

I can't locate any actual button/feature saying "Save Set as Self-contained" as some forums refer to, but I guess that applies to older version of Ableton? I'm using version 8 by the way.

I found that I can click "Collect All and Save" and then save a new copy which then makes a folder called "tune-named project", which would then store the actual project .als file and the samples, BUT it doesn't with me.

It can transfer the project just fine, yet no samples ever come along.

Am I doing this properly at all? Is there some feature/trick I'm missing?

tl;dr:

Try to transfer sets from Windows to Mac

Using Ableton Live v. 8

Samples are not saved with the project

Halp.

Thanks, mates.

You need to Save A Copy, open the copy up, then Collect All And Save.

Yes Collect All And Save via the file manager built into ableton.

Then make a Live pack

Oh actually I just remeber, look around in that window where you manage the project. There should be a few buttons that you have to enable before "collect all and save" ... i think one of them is "locate external samples"
