Chiastic Slide Vinyl

Recommended Posts

Is it just me or did anyone else get a geeky thrill the first time you realise that the album design

extends and is printed on the INSIDE of the sleeve? Well, it made no difference to how much I loved the music

but I did think that apart from being silly, it was supremely cool at the time.

That'd you'd need a torch to fully appreciate the art. :sorcerer:

I can't think of any other album that's done it but I'm sure there must be some. .

Nice. Unfortunately, I've only got Oversteps on CD but good to know.

I do remember after making this life changing discovery back then, going

through my other vinyl and peering inside the sleeves, just in case.

Pretty much like when you first found out about Vinyl remarks on Dead wax and have to 'read' your entire collection.

Great find! It takes real originality to do this.

Speaking of which, does anyone own the DVD of the Chris Morris short film 'My Wrongs'? There's some great stuff scribbled on the inside of the sleeve, but you have to tear it apart to be able to read it, which I did when I bought it...

Also, I should mention something else about the Chiastic Slide vinyl that most owners will already know. The front cover is actually covered in the same distorted 'pluses' that appear throughout the artwork, but they are not drawn in black. They exist only as a change in the otherwise shiny, white texture of the sleeve. When I first got my copy, that little detail really made it for me.

Yeah, the embossing is lovely, it's a nice additional touch to go with some extremely textured music!

i've just checked my Chiastic Slide vinyl and the design doesn't carry on into the inside of the sleeves

That's odd, it should definitely be there. Maybe a Test or Mispress or something? Unless it was omitted from later editions but I don't think it was re-issued. The only vinyl editions that show on Discogs are the original Warp release (the inner sleeve printing is noted) and a white label promo.

definitely not a mispress, or test pressing. and all the autechre vinyl was apparently reissued in 2001. i bought this brand new from boomkat in 2009, so i would assume this is from the repress.

Ah ok, that explains it then. Warp being cheapskates! Or maybe for some other reason with The Designers Republic. I wasn't aware of the re-issues actually, interesting. Does it have the embossing on the cover at least?

yep, it did. i remember cos i bought Tri Repetae again. the repress/reprints are slightly different to the originals.

everything was thinner, cheaper quality, and not as good... which was/is a shame.

and all of them were like that, not just Ae. Plaid, too. - i bought Not for Three's again aswell.. was poor, but better than nothing.

yeah it still has the embossing on the front, just no continuation of the design on the inside of the sleeves. disappointing.

yeah, i remember you mentioning that they had been reissued, but was hesitant to believe it since there is no mention of reissues on discogs. looks like i have my proof on the situation now.

My version is the same as oscillik's - no print inside, strange since I remember seeing something similar, might have to check my other ae albums tonight. I bought it new in a store a couple of years ago, it seems to be the only ae release that is still available new (besides recent releases of course), since I've seen it in a few stores, still in shrinkwrap!

Yeah, not sure about the old pressing(s), but the one I've got sounds great! Apart from the fact that the 2nd LP is a fraction bigger than normal 12" records and scrapes on the side of my record player once per revolution, really should get a better record player.
